WELCOME TO DR MANMOHAN SINGH

VICTORY OF UPA

The country at large is feeling a sense of security on UPA’s clear victory in the Lok Sabha Election of which Congress is the main constituent. It is the party that is generally considered by the people of India as secular. Congress has got 202 seats of the 263 seats secured by UPA. A good tally. Rahul Gandhi also deserves my sincere thanks for his campaign in 106 constituencies out of which UPA/Congress won 68 seats. Welcome to the Lok Sabha - young Gandhi. Your vision will benefit the nation at large. The sacrificial spirit, moral and mental support of Smt. Sonia Gandhiji is also commendable. By and large it was a clear mandate for Dr. Manmohan Singhji. It is a mendate for "Faith in Stability." Mental disturbance and political disturbances do affect the growth of the individual and country respectively. Now UPA will be able to initiate as many plans and execute its Common Minimum Program as may not be initiated in the past over 50 years of independence. UPA’s victory can be attributed to the factors: People in rural India identify themselves with Congress and its allies, waver of loans to the farmers, Signing of Nuclear Deal, Start of New Pension Scheme which will benefit over 80% population of the country.

I predicted the victory of UPA in the election by sending an SMS to Shri Digvijay Singh. General Secretary of Congress which read “ Congratulations sir. UPA is going to form the Govt. as per exit polls. Prof Keshap. Recipient Digvijay Singh sent on 14-May-2009 at 08:01:13”.

Dr. Sahib, now it is your Govt. without any outside help of any party that may restrict you to take good steps for the Indians and making India a Global Power. The people of India have voted UPA to power on the basis of performance vs. preaching. They also expect Good Governance in the next 5 years which will see the progress in India equivalent to past 50 years.
Some of the challenges before the new government are:
  1. Tackling Terrorism-internal and external.
  2. Bringing back the black money stashed in Swiss Banks.
  3. Handling meltdown i.e. recession to restore the confidence of the common people.
  4. Getting the pending bills passed in Parliament.
  5. Governing the country in such a way as may be called throughout the world " sone ki chiriya" i.e. Golden Sparrow.
  6. Introduction of Mobile Schools for the children of poor wagers who work for 2/3 months on contract basis and then shift to another job. I had the opportunity to suggest them to send their children to school and they expressed their inability on this account. I gave their children some books, copies and pencil and saw the sparkle of learning in their eyes. Kindly do something for them too, sir.

Education empowers the humans and its cost deters many a parent to send their children for higher studies. For this purpose education loans are treated by the bureaucrats in banks as business loans. They follow the same rigid procedure for sanctioning the loans and even don’t know the importance of the institutions.
I suggest that the assessing authority for EDUCATION LOANS should be established and it should comprise of Academically sound people who may assess and sanction the loan. Banks should play their role only to pay to the institutes. It will make an educated India- a brighter India. It will also remove the poverty. Due to illiteracy people feel they are poor. Many people are not poor but they indulge in show off and feel they are poor.

For my city, I congratulate Manish Tiwariji and request that CNG be replaced for diesel for 3 wheelers. Budha Nala cleaning and management of solid waste are the prime problems. Business also needs his attention.

In the end I as a citizen of FREE INDIA and welcome you as Prime Minister of India in 15th Lok Sabha – the largest democracy of the world. JAI HIND.

Change Your Vision

There was a millionaire who was bothered by severe eye pain.
He consulted so many physicians and was getting his treatment done. He did not stop consulting galaxy of medical experts; he consumed heavy loads of drugs and underwent hundreds of injections.

But the ache persisted with great vigor than before.
At last a monk who was supposed to be an expert in treating such patients was called for by the millionaire. The monk understood his problem and said that for sometime he should concentrate only on green colors and not to fall his eyes on any other colors.
The millionaire got together a group of painters and purchased barrels of green color and directed that every object his eye was likely to fall to be painted in green color just as the monk had directed.
When the monk came to visit him after few days, the millionaire's servants ran with buckets of green paints and poured on him since he was in red dress, lest their master not see any other color and his eye ache would come back.
Hearing this monk laughed and said "If only you had purchased a pair of green spectacles, worth just a few rupees, you could have saved these walls and trees and pots and all other articles and also could have saved a large share of his fortune. You cannot paint the world green." Let us change our vision and the world will appear accordingly.
It is foolish to shape the world, let us shape ourselves first.
Lets change our vision..!!
Think simple, Live simple..

VALUE OF ENGLISH

Victims of “Angrezi Hatao”
By Syed Nooruzzaman

SAMAJWADI Party leader Mulayam Singh Tadav’s opposition to the learning of English reminds one of the days when the “Angrezi hatao” movement in the late sixties had made the then UP government introduce changes in the school curriculum.
One of the socialist leaders of those days, Raj Narain (better known for filing a case against Indira Gandhi in the Allahabad High Court after the 1971 elections which led to the declaration of the 1975 Emergency), was among the most vocal opponents of the English language.
The sadistic pleasure of the socialists knew no bounds when the UP School Education Board announced that English would not be taught as a compulsory subject in all the government and government-aided schools and intermediate colleges. The teaching in general English as a compulsory subject at the graduation level was also done away with in the state universities.
While these enemies of the language rejoiced at their “achievement”, thousands of the victims suffered silently. This writer, in the 11th lass at that time in Azamgarh, was one of the victims. Being a student of agriculture science, I cam to know that the board had issued instructions that, instead of English, we would have to study mathematics as an elementary subject. Three precious months had already elapsed after the beginning of the new academic session when the change in the curriculum came about.
An idea about our predicament could be had from the fact that those of us who later on shifted to places like Delhi were refused admission to a graduation course. I cannot forget the shock I suffered when my admission form was given back to me, saying that a person who had not studied elementary English at the higher secondary or intermediate level was barred from getting admission to any course in Delhi University.
By that time I was aware that English was the language of growth. We were told by our elders that the primary reason for the Muslims’ backwardness was their rejection of English education, including this language. Muslim religious leaders, in particular, wanted the community to remain away from the language of the “Firangis” (the British) who had “deprived them of power”.
Had there been no Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, who vehemently fought against the negative thinking, the condition of the community would have been worse.
My elders told me that Sir Syed tried to eliminate the pathological hatred among the Muslims against English by describing it as the language of science and technology. It opened the window on knowledge and progress, he would say. Ye he was slapped with a “fatwa” (religious decree), declaring him a “kafir”.
The elders’ sermon opened our eyes, but our problem was how to pursue our studies. We saw light at the end of the tunnel when one fine morning somebody suggested that we could realize our dream of higher education by taking admission to a graduation course in nearby college in UP. A four year struggle of daily commuting from Delhi to Gaziabad (UP) where our college was located, bore fruit. But, more than that, it was the love for English that ultimately changed the destiny of the victims of “Angrezi hatao.”

FAUJIYON KE SAATH
KISI KA BHI NAHIN HAATH ,
by Gen. Puspendra Singh
A very different kind of protest is underway at Delhi’s Jantar Manatr. It is dignified and disciplined, like the faujis sitting in protest. But, accustomed to violent, disruptive protests, this has got hardly any mention in the media. In fact Babustan has made it a point to smother all coverage of the protest. About 15,000 medals of ex-servicemen of all three services – Generals to Jawans – have been collected and returned to Supreme Commander, Pratibha Patil. What do medals signify? To civilians these are trinkets which make ‘stupid’ faujis happy. But to a fauji, each medal is a reminder of courage, comradeship and sacrifice: the first time under fire - fear overcome and manhood gained; friends attaining veergati; some wounded or disabled. Hardship and separation from loved ones – perhaps, serving in Himalayas, protecting the very people who now deny him his dues, he became a father and yearned for the day he could proceed on leave to cuddle his newborn. When Mrs Shikha Bhardwaj, mother of Shaheed Capt Umang Bhardwaj, packed his Shaurya Chakra, she renounced the most precious nishani of her ‘jigrey ka tukra’. Even the shaheed hero’s father, Col Bhardwaj returned his own Sena Medal to Pratibha Patil. Every ‘ma and mai-ka-lal’ will feel Shikha’s heart- wrench over her tyaag. Only, Pratibha Patil, was made to miss the occasion – even her Military Advisor was absent. Such is the power and heartlessness of Babustan! After imposition of the election model code, when she met IESM delegation, she told them she had not been informed! What do faujis want; are they not paid enough? They seek justice and equity. Their demand is for one defined pension for every rank from Rifleman to General applicable to all retirees, irrespective of retirement dates (OROP).
Due to steep promotion pyramid faujis face extreme supercession, based mainly on performance. Hence, denial of OROP affects them acutely. Consider some Army examples: there is only one Subedar-Major for 60,000 sepoys. Of 1100 officers commissioned every year, just three reach HAG-equivalent grade.
In IAS/IPS there are more HAG posts than the intake level! Performance-based promotions are as foreign to these services as Burkina-Faso. Out of 11 lac armymen, only eight are eligible for OROP. But, over 99% of IAS/IPS officers, 100% judges and MPs have entitled themselves to it.Before Defence Forces were brought under ambit of the Central Pay Commissions (CPC), every rank had a specified pension.
Thereafter, while subjected to the CPCs’ ‘awards’, they were denied representation in all of them - despite constituting 40% of all Central Employees. This is the key to Babustan’s steady erosion of Defence Forces’ emoluments and status. 6CPC took the cake. Not only were they denied representation, but were not even allowed to make even a presentation to the Commission! What is the result? ‘Anomalies’ from as far back as the 4CPC are still pending for 23 years! Atleast three are in Supreme Court .No wonder faujis term them ‘peeth mein chhura’! As cases drag on most faujis would never see benefits in their lifetimes; when these back-stabs are settled. That’s how Babustan denies justice to those who safeguard their air-conditioned lifestyles.Babustan’s MoD has consistently played a pernicious role in heaping injustice on the faujis. 4PC (1986), for the first time unshackled the Forces from the steep hierarchical pyramid by adopting a running pay band and superimposing rank pay. However, sly manipulation by Defence Finance ensured that the basic pay was depressed by the amount of rank pay! What the CPC gave, diabolic accounting denied. Major Dhanapalan’s contention was upheld by Supreme Court. Quarter century later, far from conceding their mistake, MoD is still fighting other veterans in the Supreme Court.5PC (1996) included Non Practicing Allowance (NPA) of Government doctors in their pensions. Subsequently, GOI reversed this for earlier retirees, forcing them to court. Having lost in High Courts, GOI appealed to Supreme Court. Later, better sense dawned on all other Departments, who withdrew their cases. But MoD still persists in singling out military doctors - the only group being discriminated against. The 6PC fiasco revealed the purposeful machinations of MoD-bureaucrats to depress defence forces’ status, yet again. When the Chiefs protested, newspapers, once renowned for fearlessly frank journalism, carried explicit threats. Thankfully, many TV channels and intrepid journals defied MoD and exposed Babustan’s degradation of two crucial ranks. This had immediate ramifications in security-sensitive Kashmir at police-chiefs’/ Corps Commanders’ levels. Clearly, defence of the Republic is inconsequential; only ‘putting-the-Army-down’ counts.More than 80% faujis retire before they turn 40 and nearly all before 60! However, while previous CPCs removed pension weightages which had partially compensated for early retirements, 6CPC further aggravated the disparities between pensioners. Today, a sepoy who retired in Dec 2005 gets 82% less pension than one who retired in Jan 2006! Even a pre-2006 Havildar gets 37% less pension than a sepoy - two ranks his junior. Surely, Parliament is there to safeguard fauji interests, as it is reflects the citizens’ solid support of their fauji bhaiyyas. Yes, the KP Singh-Deo Committee appointed back in 1980s first enunciated the term OROP and recommended it. But Babustan has been able to consistently ensure that it is not implemented. DS Nakra, a retired FADS, approached the Courts when he in turn faced pension inequity. Supreme Court in its landmark judgment of 17-12-1982 upheld the principle of OROP. Revealing extracts from the judgment are quoted below:"Pension is ….. but a payment for past services rendered”. The hon’ble court further stated, “Payment of Pension is a statutory liability incurred and must be provided in the Budget. The argument (regarding limitations of resources) is an argument of desperation ...without merit and must be rejected as untenable (Para 45)…” On 9-9-08, delivering judgment in a 5CPC-related case, whereby veteran Maj-Gens’ pensions were equalled to that of Brigs (junior rank) retiring prospectively, the Supreme Court quoted extensively from the Nakra case and ruled that different dates of retirement cannot be a basis for denial of equity in pensions - a senior rank-holder must get higher pension than his junior. At first 6CPC denied this to Brigs, Maj-Gens and Lt-Gens, all of whose pensions were made equal to Cols (junior to all) retiring prospectively. Only when faced with contempt notice, Babustan gave a nominal increase to these ranks. But still denies them OROP!In a TV debate anchored by Karan Thapar in Feb ‘09, it was brought out that OROP was part of the Congress 2004 election manifesto. In light of the above judgements, Manoj Tewari had to defend the indefensible: INC’s denial of OROP during 41/2 years in office. He mouthed the party line, ‘I empathise with these people (sic), but due to legal, financial and administrative reasons, OROP cannot be given.’ One month later, now seeking election from Punjab, he issued a statement that, should he return as MP, he would ensure that OROP is granted to Defence Personnel! If the citizens, Parliament and Supreme Court all favour granting OROP, what stops the Govt from acceding to this demand? Obviously, it is the Haath of Babustan. At a time when perilous security storms are gathering around us, the Defence Forces are forced to fight the might of Babustan for justice and honour. All patriotic citizens, who value the nation’s integrity, must vote for those who will support its fauji saviours and ensure that ‘farebi jhhootas’ are given the ‘joota’ in the polls.

LUNG CANCER CURE

Radiation therapy
“highly effective” against early lung cancer.

WASHINGTON:
A high-tech type of radiation treatment called stereotactic body radiation therapy(SVRT) has been found to be highly-effective in treating early-stage lung cancer for patients who are not eligible for surgery.

This therapy uses very large doses of high-energy radiation (x-rays) which are directly aimed at tumours with great precision and accuracy, thus sparing the surrounding, healthy tissues from damage.

“I think of this as lung-sparing treatment, in which many patients with early-stage lung cancer can have effective treatment in as few as 3 treatment sessions with a low-risk of side effects, “ said Donald McGarry clinical associate professor and vice-chairman of radiation medicine at the UK college of Medicine.

PEACE OR VIOLENCE?

I want to lead
a peaceful life:
Kuki

Ranjist Singh Gill, alias Kuki, accused in the murder case of Lalit Makan and his wife in 1985, says he wants to rebuild his life.. “To be in jail for 17 long years was a harrowing experience. I am a totally changed man and want to lead a peaceful life”, said Kuki who was released on parole last Friday.

A resident of Kitchlu Nagar here, Kuki got parole to complete his M.Sc. in plant breeding at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) under Dr. Navtej Singh Bains from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU.

Talking to the Tribune, he said he was thankful to the government, who took interest in his case. With young wife Sarabjot Kaur sitting next to him, Kuki said it was a traumatic experience for two decades and he did not want to go back to the dingy cell of jail again. “I am close to 50. I think I have suffered enough for the crime I committed 24 years back. It was an offshoot of an ongoing frustration among Punjabis in 1984. I want to restore my dignity now,” he said with a heavy voice.

On asking about students standing by him when he was sent back to jail recently, Kuki said he was moved by the gesture of the students who were 20-30 years younger to him. “But they should not have boycotted classes. We can sort out things by initiating dialogue. I really do not want that youngsters should fall prey to violence as I have suffered enough for being violent. "
He said he was thankful to Avantika, daughter of Lalit Makan, who stood by him and appealed for his clemency to the Chief Minister of Delhi. In his message to the young generation, Kuki said frustration could lead to violence, but youth should be strong enough to overcome all hurdles in a non-violent manner.

On getting the degree, he said he had submitted his theses to PAU authorities and was waiting for viva to be conducted soon.

(Source: Shivani Bhakkoo’s report in The Tribune on 8th April, 2009.)

Dear readers,

We must desist from violence and follow the path of non-violence whatever be the cost. Forgive and forget method works here. Hate speech and mental hate against any one belonging TO any community is dealt severely by law. Law works for all as an equal deterrent. Years of life spent in jail for a crime can never be recalled at any cost. Learn to Be Patient in behaviour and save those precious years. Learn to love all as we the human beings are the sons and daughters of ONE LORD who can be remembered as Waheguru, Allah, Bhagwan, Lord Christ or by any other name.

WE AND OUR CHILDREN

By Dr. S. Radhakrishnan,
Former President of India.

Children constitute the wealth of the country and by directing their energies in proper channels, we improve the physical and mental health of whole community.

We have worshipped the divine Lord Krishna. One of the most famous symbols of the Christian religion is the picture of the Medonna and the Child. To become like a little child is not easy. It costs us a great deal to acquire the grace and meekness of the child. The Chinese thinker Mencies observed: “A great man is one who has not lost the child’s heart.’

There are things which are hidden from the learned and reavealed to babes. Narada, who gives the knowledge of the Supreme Self approaches Sanatkumara who is represented in Indian tradition as an eternal child. The learned Narada goes to the unlearned Sanatkumara for instruction.

The child symbolizes open mindedness, receptivity. Children are warm-hearted and eager to make friends. A child’s personality is sensitive and responds rapidly to the surrounding influences. Physical care of children is not enough, emotional care is also needed.

By helping the children to love their fellows whatever be their caste or community, we will develop a sense of brotherhood. By bringing the children in one fold today, we foster tomorrow a sense of community among all Indians.

In our country we train children to feel that they are members of this caste or that community, of this province or that language group, and thus give a wrong twist to their minds.

When it is our desire to train our people to feel that they are first and foremost citizens of this great land, this direction of the mind will have to start when they are little children. Every child is an experiment, an adventure into nobler life, an opportunity to change the old pattern and make it new. Every child is a distinct individual.

We have to give our children a sense of the great spiritual heritage and make them feel proud of their Indianness. We should give children an idea of our culture that all religions lead to God and they are only different pathways. To quarrel about the ways to God is both irrelevant and irreligious. Religious intolerance is against the spirit for which this country has stood for centuries. Our culture tells us that God dwells in the hear of every being, even if he be wicked or degenerate. This faith is the basis of democracy. It asks us to practise charity, self-control and compassion. It impresses on us the importance of our action since every action has a reaction.

The world is a moral order. Transgression of the moral law is followed by punishment. We cannot be unjust with impunity. We must therefore love justice. These lessons are to be conveyed to the children by means of songs and stories, play and work. By celebrating national festivals and anniversaries of great leaders, children grasp the spirit of our heritage. Excursions may reveal them to the vastness of our country and the greatness of its art and architecture.

Children get their first picture of the past from historical tales. History books should be carefully written and should promote friendship among nations. We must help our children to think of India as a whole, as a nation with its part to play in the world. Books and films for children should be carefully prepared. There should be special radio programmes for children into which great care, vitality and imaginative experience are put. Radio and cinema must enlarge the horizons of children. We must keep children aware of the value of good reading. Great books are the basis of our culture and civilization.

Care of children is not only a science but an art. We need people who have a genuine love and respect for children. It is essential that ideas of children’s welfare should spread in villages. Many ladies of middle class families may be in a position to spare few hours a week and be trained for this purpose. Municpalities and Town Committees should consider their duty to provide parks and playgrounds, libraries and nurseries, balbhavans for children, for sometimes neither home nor schools offer facilities. The children should be given high priority in our plans for social reconstruction.

TRUE POWER

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND IDEAS RULE THE WORLD

Dear Friend,

Doing the right thing, in the right way and at the right time will produce the right results you want, and deliver the goods.
In other words, knowing what to do, when, where and how is the master-key to your success. Gain knowledge and get ideas. Know the things over which you have power and shape them to your advantage. Learn and analyse your strengths and weaknesses. Achieve and accomplish through study and practice. You have total power over your attitude, outlook and conduct. Think positively and act decisively. You have complete control over your appearance and approach, attitude and aptitudes, words and voice, health and habits.
If you want people to flock to you, ring wedding bells and do not sound funeral chimes. Appreciate what others do for you and make the appreciation come from your heart. People crave for recognition and appreciation. It is all in what you say and how you say. Even more important, you must first establish yourself as a good and appreciative listener. Everyone want, nay, truly craves, for an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Therefore, be a good listener first and talker next. It is better and wiser to listen with interest when you have the urge to talk. Become and remain an enthusiastic and interesting listener and encourage the other person to talk. One learns and gets to know by listening. On the other hand, one only exposes oneself by talking. You get the advantage when you listen and lose it when you talk.
You can make people feel important by asking them to talk and tell you about their accomplishments and achievements. Let them have the chance of playing the big hero. If you want an individual to like you and take to you instantly, let him feel that you really like him and are favourably impressed by him.
Words which convey joy, speech that spells success, and sounds that ring wedding bells, attract and bring others to your fold. Banish negative words like defeat, depression, failure, misfortune, pain, sickness, trouble etc. from your thoughts, vocabulary and expression. Words move people. Let us use them to build up people – to make them feel better, feel important, feel wanted, feel big and happy.
Sounding the success bells for you for a bright and prosperous future.

FATE AND FAITH

WHERE FATE FAILS,
FAITH PREVAILS.
WHEN ALL THE DOORS ARE CLOSED BY FATE,
FAITH OPENS ANOTHER DOOR.
WHILE FATE SAYS,
THIS IS THE END OF THE ROAD;
THEN FAITH SAYS,
NO, CHILD THIS IS THE BEND OF THE ROAD.
FAITH IS GREATER THAN FATE

THE WORLD WITHIN YOU

FIND THE WORLD WITHIN YOU
By Dr. K.V.GOVINDA RAO*

Some times we face an amusing question: Where do we belong? Before we go in quest of answer, we must realize that we belong to ourselves. We are an island within ourselves. That island can be as barren as rocks on the moon or as fruitful as an orchard or a beautiful countryside. It is within us to make of ourselves what we want to be – creatively, not destructively. You train for your goals, but they must be realistic, not dreams beyond your reach.
During moments of stress and tension, we can take a vacation. We can take this vacation every day for a few moments and it costs nothing. The daily vacation is within you, in the room of your mind. Go on this vacation when pressures are great. Relax for a few minutes, let go of the tensions, renew your energies for the problems before you.
Isn’t it wonderful to be an island within yourself briefly? But you do not stay that way. You belong to yourself, no doubt, but you also belong to the world. ‘Happiness’ lies within the world, not totally within yourself. Prepare yourself to create a perfect rhythm between these two. You realize that you need the help of others as they need yours. Man reaches his true big self when he shares his success and his big self with others. He shares his courage with others when times are tough, when there is pressure. He stands up for himself and for others, turning a crisis into an opportunity. The world is full of crisis, and we are here to help each other rise above them, to reach fulfillment, and sooner or later, the Brotherhood of Man.

WONDER OF FAITH.

By Sehaj**
Once there was a girl name Rose. She tried hard in everything. But achieved nothing. She worked hard till day and night to study, think about her future and career. Although, she was hard-working but she was deaf and a mute girl.
Once, some one told her(by the sign communication) that if she drinks water and cleans her ears with the fountains of great Church of Greece, she would be totally fine.
But that was a lie. No matter everyone tried to stop her but her ideas were strong and lively. The doctors told that she could never be fine as she was deaf and mute by birth.
She didn’t believe in the doctors and went to Greece.
She was so scared that when she drank the water and cleaned her ears with it, she was surprised. What a magic! What a miracle, she said. I am totally fine and I am so happy that now I can speak and hear and need no more to use my hands everytime to communicate. When she went to the doctors, they were shocked. Now they knew what she believed, she really-really worked hard to achieve it. When she went back to her country, she thanked her Lord Jesus and the boy who told her to do this.
When he came to know that by doing what he said ( a lie) she became fine. He felt sorry for her and told her the truth. She couldn’t believe her ears. Now she understood why the doctors didn’t believe her.

** Sehaj is aged 10 years and is studying in 5th class. She wrote the story on 31st January, 2008. Her feelings are appreciated. Paper landed in my hand and hence is ready for the world to read and appreciate.

Ideas

Ideas Work Wonders

Dear Friends,

Success starts with a thought or an idea.

When nourished with hope and confidence and encouraged by ambition and aspiration, that single idea takes shape as a dream, vision, and a goal in stages. You must allow your ideas to grow, no matter how farfetched or non-comformist they may seem in the beginning. You must give wings to your ideas and let them fly high. You must allow your thoughts to take root, no matter how others choose to regard them.

Many great ones, whom the world today worships with awe and wonder as gifted visionaries, super geniuses or miracle-makers, were viewed as utopians or mental defuncts by several of their contemporaries. While some may describe your ideas as imagination and vision, others may dub them as sheer day dreams and idle fantasies. But the fact remains that ideas, however, strange, unorthodox or heretic they might have seemed at the start, have ultimately wrought miracle, brought revolutions and built civilization.

Ideas verily rule the world, and also the minds of men. They contribute to continuing changes, shape as well as determine the destiny of human beings and contribute to the growth of civilizations. Every great and grant accomplishment, whether relating to religion, science, medicine, industry, technology, or sports, which are written in letters of gold in the history of human advancement, was in the first instance, no more than a mere idea in the mind of a human being, be he a man or woman. Revered religious texts, great classics, magnificent monuments, astonishing scientific discoveries, earth shaking inventions, fantastic technological feats like splitting the atom, heart transplant, human walking on the Moon, unraveling the secrets of Mars – have all had only ‘ideas’ at their starting points.

Ideas sprout, blossom, and lead to action with knowledge. Therefore, your success is irrevocably linked to knowledge. Knowledge is strength and knowledge is power. When you apply your knowledge and understand your problem, you will find the solution staring at you. When you know the answers, your success in an examination, test or interview is automatically assured. When you know the secret of your business, your profit and growth are guaranteed.
You do not have to go very far for an example.

The track record of Yuki Bhmabri, the young tennis star who won the 2009 Australian Open boys’ single title, is enough to prove the fact.

Today, at only 16, he symbolizes the resurgent spirit of India that not only thinks and dreams big, but also tries to translate every dream into action. In a physically demanding sport like tennis, he has done a marvel with sheer clarity of thought and mental toughness. Yuki has differently honed his game and keenly improved his physical fitness to come up to the mark.

By winning the Australian Open boys’ singles title, Yuki joined a legion of players from Lwe Head, Ken Rosewell, Rod Laver, John NewCombe, Tony Roche, Stefan Edberg and Thomas Enqvist to the more recent ones like Nicolas Kiefer, Andy Roddick, Janko Tiparevic, Marcos Bhagdatis and Gaol Manfil, who have all triumphed at the oldest junior Grand Slam event that started in 1922. He can courageously stand up to the challenges from players with explosive game. In his formative years, critics often questioned his technique, specially his pronounced backswing, but they have been silenced, as Yuki has evolved a lot.

Enabling you to gain ideas and win in life.

HEALTH

Health & Harmony

Auras

What are the auras? We each possess a “magnetic” field that radiates from us in the same way that the Sun’s rays emanate from its centre. This is the aura, and it partakes and reflects our mental, spiritual and emotional states. We all create the characteristics of our own auras by our mental, spiritual and emotional habits.

So aura is an extension of a person’s character. It is the aura we are “feeling” – with our own aura – when we feel instantaneously conscious of the strength of another’s personality and charisma.

COLOUR MEDITATIONS

Let’s say that you want to heighten your feelings of devotion to your loved one, that you want to rid your self of your jealousy about this person and increase the pure love you have. Dear Reader,
EDUCATE AND EMPOWER A CHILD.

LITTLE DROPS MAKE BIG OCEANS
Sub: Appeal to like minded people. Service to humans is service to God.

MONEY NOT, MEN MATTER

HELP US TO HELP OTHERS.

DONATE FOR

marriage of poor girls and help of poor students

When I came in this world, the world was here. I got education in the institutions which I had NOT built. I received help from the people who were not related to me by blood. This all contribution of others, my elders, ancestors and study of holy scriptures has inspired me to build institutions for learning and helping the people at large and generation NEXT irrespective of caste, color and creed. “Service to humanity is service to God” all holy scriptures and men of great learning say. When I underwent NDE, I received help from unknown people and organizations. This I have learnt after meeting NDE(Near Death Experience). So, I have dedicated my rest of the life to build institutions and work for the betterment of the life of poor human beings especially the have-nots and children of slum-dwellers. Education is empowerment. You can join me.

Institutions survive longer than humans’ life span. What is today Oxford University was once a Plato’s Academy.

Rahul Mahajan (son of Mr. Parmod Mahajan allegedly shot by his own brother, a leading political leader of BJP in India) aptly disclosed the Power of Money when he commented on TV, “I paid Rs. 1.25 crores as a medical bill of my father Pramod Mahajan. But I could not save my papa. I have learnt what is the value of money in life.”

Question is whether “money can buy happiness”. Emphatically “No”. Take the case of Mr. Ramalinga Raju of Satyam fame: 1000 designer suits, 321 shoes, 310 belts, properties spread over 63 countries. Bracelets, chains, rings and watches worth crores of rupees and now the residence is Jail. Psychiatrists feel that former Satyam Computer boss was suffering from “hoarding mania” and this landed him in Jail. “This kind of behaviour gives the buyer false sense of control over life situations”, says Sandeep Vohra, consultant psychiatrist Delhi Apollo Hospital.

Mahatma Budha says, “A kind man who makes good use of wealth is rightly said to possess a great treasure, but the miser who hoards up his riches will have no profit.”

LIFESTYLE PROBLEMS

SENIOR CITIZENS’ LIFESTYLE PROBLEMS
By Dr. (BRIG. RETD)M.L.KATARIA

There was an alarming press report referring to the WHO some time ago that lifestyle ailments were likely to cost India more $2.5 billion in the coming couple of decades. What are these ailments and which age groups are vulnerable to them?

Here are some of the health-related questions often asked by senior citizens:

Question
: I am 65 and a diabetic. What is the usual life-span for a diabetic and the recommended lifestyle?
Answer: With controlled blood sugar levels and a regulated lifestyle, I know diabetics at 85, 90 and above.
Q: What are the acceptable blood sugar levels?
A: The fasting blood sugar level should be around 100 mgm% and the post-paradial levels 11/2 to 2 hrs after prescribed meal should not exceed 140 mgs.
Q: How to maintain these blood sugar levels?
A: In a normal person insulin secreted by the pancreas, a massive gland in the abdomen, controls the blood sugar levels. There is an autonomous reciprocity between the quantum of carbohydrate diet ingested and the insulin secretion. A diabetic is an insulinaenic. Therefore, the pancreatic gland has to be flogged by drugs to produce more insulin to cope with the metabolism of carbohydrates to yield energy for the body.
Q: For general knowledge could you please mention some of these drugs?
A: There is a plethora of drugs in the market to control diabetes. Commonly used drugs are Metformis, Glybendamides, Gliclazids and Pyciglitazones prescribed singly or in combination, besides the injectable insulin. As over-dose may lead to fatal hypoglycaemia, these drugs should be used under medical advice.

Q: Can diabetes be controlled without drugs?
A:
Yes, mild diabetics can maintain blood sugar levels with in normal limits by diet control and regular exercise. A low carbohydrate diet and exercise can reduce the drug dosage even in an advanced diabetic. Alcohol seems to worsen the blood sugar levels.
Q: In brief, what be a diabetic’s lifestyle?
A: Low carbohydrate diet, preferably vegetarian, with a lot of fibre, regular exercise, with minimum drug dosage and a monthly/quarterly blood sugar monitoring. A diabetic should have his own Glucometer.
Q: I am 70 plus, a case of high blood pressure, on Indral 25 mg. daily for the past 10 years. Many drugs for blood pressure have flooded the market. I am interested in knowing about them. Should I give up Indral and change over to any of the latest drugs?
A: All the drugs for BP belong to the basic groups of beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin, converting enzyme blockers, vasodialators, diuretics, etc. Multinational pharmaceutical companies have given them various names. These are used singly or in combination by doctors to control blood pressure. If Indral has so far kept your BP under control without any side-effect, it should not be changed.
Q: What are the formal limits of BP?
A: Blood Pressure is not the same during 24 hours. There are diurnal variations. As an average, it should be around 120/80 (mm of mercury) preferably 110/70, but not more than 140/90, at any time.
Q: What is the recommended lifestyle for a person with confirmed hypertension?
A: A low salt and fat diet, with regular exercise, normal limits of weight, a bi-annual check on lipidogram, renal function tests, an ECG and above all, a stress-free equanimity of any an easy-going mind.
Q: I am 80 and cannot enjoy dream-free sleep. I often wake up at 2 or 3 a.m. and have to take a half or full tablet of diazopan. What should be my lifestyle to enjoy dream-free sound sleep and no diazopan?
A: Most worldly-wise elderly persons have an anxiety neurosis due to domestic, financial, social and physical problems resulting in insomnia or sleeplessness. Enlarged prostrate, osteoporosis, multi-joint pains, high BP, muscular convulsions and many more must be isolated and treated. A lifestyle of gradual withdrawal and detachment from financial ambitions, social and domestic obligations should ease the mind. Diazopan is too strong a sedative. All sleeping pills, as a rule, should be avoided. They give addiction and have side-effects over the long run. If required, occasionally, Alprazoneles in fractional doses of 0.25 to 0.50 mmm may be taken for insomnia, but not as a regular habit.

RIGHT TIME FOR BRUSHING THE TEETH

TEETHING TROUBLES: THE BEST TIME TO BRUSH
by Dr. H.S. Chawla*
“When should I brush?” is a common query directed at me. Patients, friends and acquaintances want to know whether they should brush in the morning, evening or at night and, secondly, before or after meals.

Generally, one brushes to remove food particles from the teeth. Some of you brush to keep the teeth white and sparkling – which contributes immensely to an overall smart appearance – and others to avoid bad breath. Children brush because their parents tell them to.

The common dental diseases – dental caries and gum diseases – are caused by bacteria in the mouth. Bacteria live in every mouth, on the teeth and the upper surface of the tongue. Bacterial aggregation on teeth is called dental plaque. The difference between a disease-free mouth and one with disease is that the former has lower concentration of bacteria whereas the latter has more.

Bacterial action upon food produces acid. The acid is formed almost immediately upon eating. The acidity of dental plaque increases (in scientific terminology, the pH of dental plaque decreases). Acid erodes tooth enamel (the outer hard layer of the tooth). Many attacks like this on enamel produce cavities in the teeth.

Therefore, the main aim of cleaning your teeth should be to remove dental plaque and reduce bacterial concentration. This keeps teeth free from cavities and gum-disease. When this happens, all other objectives of cleaning the teeth are automatically achieved. Here are various options regarding timing:

Brushing immediately after meals.

There are many nooks and corners in the mouth where bacteria can live and multiply. Because of the tight contact between one tooth and the other, it is practically impossible to get rid of all these bacteria. The acid forms and starts eroding tooth enamel almost immediately upon eating. It takes about 30 minutes for the acidity of the plaque to return to normal.

Thus, brushing right after eating is not at all advised, as the acid produced has already begun the process of eroding enamel. If you brush promptly after a meal, you rub off part of the dissolved minerals of the enamel.

When you brush after meals, you should wait for at least an hour to give time for at least an hour to give time for the acidity of plaque to decrease. It will set the environment for re-mineralisation.

Brushing before meals:

Most people normally brush their teeth in the morning before breakfast. That is beneficial, as you have reduced the number of bacteria before exposing them to food. The amount of acid production is expected to be less, and so would be the damage to the teeth. You get an additional benefit if you use fluoride tooth paste, as the fluoride gets incorporated into the enamel and makes it strong and resistant to the effect of acid. (Fluoride converts the hydroxyl-apatite of enamel to calcium fluor-apatite).

Brushing before dinner

Similarly, based on the above concept, brushing before dinner, indeed, is more beneficial than post-dinner brushing. However, it is essential to get rid of the food particles sticking in the oral cavity after dinner. To achieve this inter dental cleaning along with a little bit of brushing is also needed before retiring to sleep. Otherwise, thanks to the decrease of salivary secretions while we sleep, and the mouth remaining closed for a prolonged period, an ideal environment is created for bacteria to multiply.

Brushing at any time of the day

Thorough brushing at any time of the day is more beneficial than half hearted brushing at selected times. I involves brushing without tooth paste for 5-7 minutes and spitting out each time as the mouth becomes filled with spit, followed by brushing with tooth paste. Inter-dental cleaning with dental floss (or with inter-dental brush) is then carried out. Brush once again with tooth paste.

Thorough brushing whenever you have the time is preferred over half-hearted brushing before or after meals. If you do not spend time on brushing, you are just removing bacteria from one segment of your teeth and re-settling them on another. Brushing before meals is more beneficial than after meals. Brushing immediately after meals should be avoided.

HAPPY LIFE FORMULA

FORMULA FOR A HAPPY LIFE
By Harish Dhillon

WITH the plethora of books published recently, on the art of living and wellbeing, there are many formulas for leading a happy life. A friend, however, has evolved his own formula.

We were both students at Lucknow University and came together during the production of a radio play for an inter-university youth festival- I wrote the script, he read the main part. I was impressed by his quiet dignity and of course, his powerful voice. We became friends and I took to dropping in when he rehearsed for his many theatrical performances. In spite of being the best actor in the group, he was content with whatever role the director gave him and brought to each a passionate dedication. We were all convinced that his great talent would soon come to be widely recognized.

But destiny thought otherwise. He fell in love with a girl from another community and the situation threatened to take an ugly communal turn. The young couple eloped and he found a job with a travel agency. Things were made more difficult by the impending arrival of a baby. But through all the turmoil, he retained his calm and serenity and with his great diligence he rose steadily in the office hierarchy. There was an improvement in his life-style, too, but with two school-going children, the financial situation remained precarious.

Then he set up a travel agency of his own. Here he created innovated opportunities for enlarging his business. A large number of Buddhist pilgrims who visited India from Thailand had language difficulties. He sent his secretary to Thailand to learn the language: practically every Thai tourist now came through his agency.

Contrary to the common perception, not all Americans tourists are huge spenders.
his specifically designed economy packages for young Thai tourists were fully subscribed for the next 10 years, by which time he had become a multi-millionaire.

If he felt any regret at losing out on his acting, he did not show it. Then, suddenly, he sold his travel agency and moved to Bombay to try his luck in films. In four years, he appeared in dozens of films but in very brief roles. He seemed happy and content.

But he did not lose his ability to create opportunities. He invited me to a performance where, on a bare stage, with the spotlights focused on him, he launched into the story of Sohrab and Rustom. He used his powerful voice with mesmerizing effect and a spell bound hush descended on the hall. As he drew to the climax there were not many dry eyes in the audience. The end was greeted with loud and sustained applause.

His formula in a happy life lay in striking a balance between a dignified, serene acceptance of what destiny gave him, on the one hand and a passionate search and pursuit of opportunity on the other.
