U-Turn

You Might Have To Make A U-Turn

Once I was travelling in a part of India with which my driver was unfamiliar.

He made a wrong turn at one point but drove on for five miles before he realised he was on the wrong road. He had to stop the car then and make a U-turn, and soon we safely reached our destination.

This kind of U-turn is made not only while navigating a road; it is a principle of life.

Every person, every community, every nation needs at some point to make a U-turn. Failing to do this could result in an unbearable loss.

For example, the Tatas established a car factory in West Bengal to produce the Nano car in 2007.
Very soon they discovered that West Bengal was not favourable for their industry, so they dismantled their factory and re-established it in Gujarat. Now Nano cars are successfully running in every city of India. This success was the direct result of adopting the U-turn policy.
The same is applicable to nations. One such example is the course adopted by the United Kingdom after the Second World War. British leaders, especially those who were associated with the Fabian Society, felt that they were now unable to control India and other “British colonies” and proceeded to adopt a policy of decolonisation.
As we know, Churchill emerged as a hero in WWII, but he was defeated in the 1945 election. The reason for this being that a desire for post-war reform was widespread amongst the British population and the man who had led Britain in war was not seen as the man to lead the nation in peace.
There are numerous examples in history of the success of those who adopted the policy of U-turn and the failure of those who did not.
In this world, nothing is certain, neither for individuals nor for nations. So every individual or group of people ought to adopt the U-turn policy where it is relevant. When they find that their journey is taking them down a blind alley, they need to revise their policy, they must reassess the whole matter, and if it appears that they were heading in the wrong direction, they should change course without any further ado.
India is also a good example of this kind of policy. After Independence, India adopted the socialist model for its economy, but the result was hardly encouraging.
Then in 1991, India introduced a new policy in its economic planning. Now, in recent years, Indian authorities have brought about such great changes in economic policies as may be described as a paradigm shift and yet, perhaps the time is ripe for yet another perspective that can cleanse the system of impurities.
The U-turn policy is a law of nature. No one is able to see the unseen. No one can foresee all that is going to happen in the future. This makes the journey of life a jump into uncertainty.
A wise man is one who can reassess himself, reset his priorities, replan his project and  mould himself according to changing circumstances. Don’t try to fight against realities. Simply accept them. When you cannot change reality, change yourself.
Sometimes it appears that the U-turn policy will lead to some loss, but any such loss is the lesser evil, while going against reality is to opt for the greater evil.
The U-turn policy is only another name for what may be called acceptance of reality and adjustment to the changing times.
The U-turn policy is the policy of the wise: it ensures success, while not adopting it is risking failure. Success and failure are both in your hands.

Life Skills

Personality Development Skills
SLM-1 (Mind Power SPOKEN ENGLISH Institute)

Hello student,

Here below are the skills that can enhance your personality for better living.

  1. There is one difference that makes you different from others and successful in life. The difference is gut feelings, enthusiasm and self-motivation. Have you seen your puppy  running with extra ordinary energy when it sees the ball i.e. the goal it loves? This kind of gut feelings, enthusiasm and self-motivation leads anyone to achieve anything in life.
  2. For achieving what is at #1 we need to modify our behaviour. Thoughts pop up in mind – positive and negative. Thoughts are like air entering our houses. Storm that is also air brings along with dust too. Same is with negative thinking. It destroys our dreams. Keep in mind always – positive thoughts. Don’t waste your mental energy on thinking “why is this difficult or impossible.” Just dare and think “how can it done” and do.
  3. Know your rights. You have the right to make mistakes and not feel guilty. Feeling guilty for mistakes is one of the biggest stress creating agents. There is none in the world who has not committed mistakes. Wise don’t feel guilty and mend the mistake next time. Mistakes are part of your learning process.
3.1     You have right to say “No” to unwanted demands from others – be it your own kith and kin.  Yes learn to say “No” politely, tactfully and without hurting others’ feelings. Say it graciously.
3.2     You have the right to make and follow your own priorities.
3.3     You have the right to love yourself. Never compare. Accept yourself in absolute totality. Celebrate yourself saying yourself “YES, I have done it. I can do it. God has made me unique. There is none in the world like me. I will design my life and I will live life of my dreams.”
3.4     You have the right to dream and follow those dreams.
3.5     You have the right to take responsibility of your life. You are a member of the team yet different from the team.
  1. Law of success: Love yourself. Accept yourself in absolute totality and never compare. Comparison is hell. Winners beat their own records. Losers compare with others. Think positively. Positive thoughts create health and opportunities, negative thoughts destroy health and opportunities.
  2. Learn to handle anger: Anger is a disabling emotion. Anger increases pulse rate, rises blood pressure. It burns the vessel (who indulges in anger) more than the vessel (who faces anger) upon which it is poured. It is like acid. Whenever you feel that the situation will provoke you to be angry (1) Drink 2 glasses of water (2) Closing eyes do deep breathing (3) Just keeping mouth shut count up to 20. These are some of the ways suggested by world renowned psychologists. Anger destroys internal immunity, decreases patience which is very essential for becoming GREAT from good. In anger, the root of the problem is clouded. Save yourself. Say less, observe more is GOLDEN rule to find the root of the problem. Instead of unexpectedly exploding on some person or situation, let your brain question the root of the problem. YOU CAN DO IT.
  3. Think positively to live happily. Send positive messages to your mind and heart. Count your blessings and feel the gratitude. Whenever in doubt for happiness, think about the people who don’t have what you have and enjoy. Deep breathing and meditation (not medication) make a person her/his own cheerleader. Permanent happiness does not come from mental possession and expectation, it comes from feeling of self-fulfillment.
You are more powerful than what the people around you tell. Write your strengths and weaknesses. You will find that you have less weaknesses. Whatever weaknesses you have that you will be able to control and overcome just within a period of 6 months.  Love what you do. Don’t regret. Enjoy life to the fullest extent. YOU CAN DO. Mind ready everything is easy.  Always say to your mind: YES I CAN. If you are mentally saying, “ I can’t”, you are creating mental barriers and blocks for your body to work. YES I CAN itself is energy. Boost yourself with this energy. Saying “Yes” itself to the people around you itself is creating positive energy or say “least mental resistant”  in your mind. That’s all for the day.

Knowledge is knowing the dots, wisdom is connecting those dots to achieve what you desire.

Be Happy- 10 things to avoid

Hotwire
Sometimes the route to happiness depends more on what you don’t do.
Happiness–in your business life and your personal life–is often a matter of subtraction, not addition.
Consider, for example, what happens when you Stop doing the following 10 things:
1. Blaming
People make mistakes. Employees don’t meet your expectations. Vendors don’t deliver on time.
So you blame them for your problems. But you’re also to be blamed. Maybe you didn’t provide enough training. Maybe you didn’t build in enough of a buffer. Maybe you asked too much, too soon.
Taking responsibility when things go wrong instead of blaming others isn’t masochistic, it’s empowering-because then you focus on doing things better or smarter next time. And when you get better or smarter, you also get happier.
2. Impressing
No one likes you for your clothes, your car, your possessions, your title, or your accomplishments. Those are all “things.” People may like your things; but that doesn’t mean they like you.
Sure, superficially they might seem to, but superficial is also insubstantial, and a relationship that is not based on substance is not a real relationship.
Genuine relationships make you happier, and you’ll only form genuine relationships when you stop trying to impress and start trying to just be yourself.
3. Clinging
When you’re afraid or insecure, you hold on tightly to what you know, even if what you know isn’t particularly good for you. An absence of fear or insecurity isn’t happiness: It’s just an absence of fear or insecurity.
Holding on to what you think you need won’t make you happier; letting go so you can reach for and try to earn what you want will. Even if you don’t succeed in earning what you want, the act of trying alone will make you feel better about yourself.
4. Interrupting
Interrupting isn’t just rude. When you interrupt someone, what you’re really saying is, “I’m not listening to you so I can understand what you’re saying; I’m listening to you so I can decide what I want to say.”
Want people to like you? Listen to what they say. Focus on what they say. Ask questions to make sure you understand what they say. They’ll love you for it–and you’ll love how that makes you feel.
5. Whining
Your words have power, especially over you. Whining about your problems makes you feel worse, not better. If something is wrong, don’t waste time complaining. Put that effort into making the situation better. Unless you want to whine about it forever, eventually you’ll have to do that. So why waste time? Fix it now.
Don’t talk about what’s wrong. Talk about how you’ll make things better, even if that conversation is only with yourself. And do the same with your friends or colleagues. Don’t just be the shoulder they cry on.
Friends don’t let friends whine–friends help friends make their lives better.
6. Controlling
Yeah, you’re the boss. Yeah, you’re the titan of industry. Yeah, you’re the small tail that wags a huge dog.
Still, the only thing you really control is you. If you find yourself trying hard to control other people, you’ve decided that you, your goals, your dreams, or even just your opinions are more important than theirs.
Plus, control is short term at best, because it often requires force, or fear, or authority, or some form of pressure–none of those let you feel good about yourself.
Find people who want to go where you’re going. They’ll work harder, have more fun, and create better business and personal relationships. And all of you will be happier.
7. Criticizing
Yeah, you’re more educated. Yeah, you’re more experienced. Yeah, you’ve been around more blocks and climbed more mountains and slayed more dragons. That doesn’t make you smarter, or better, or more insightful.
That just makes you you: unique, matchless, one of a kind, but in the end, just you. Just like everyone else–including your employees.
Everyone is different: not better, not worse, just different. Appreciate the differences instead of the shortcomings and you’ll see people–and yourself–in a better light.
8. Preaching
Criticizing has a brother. His name is Preaching. They share the same father: Judging.
The higher you rise and the more you accomplish, the more likely you are to think you know everything–and to tell people everything you think you know.
When you speak with more finality than foundation, people may hear you but they don’t listen. Few things are sadder and leave you feeling less happy.
9. Dwelling
The past is valuable. Learn from your mistakes. Learn from the mistakes of others. Then let it go.
Easier said than done? It depends on your focus. When something bad happens to you, see that as a chance to learn something you didn’t know. When another person makes a mistake, see that as an opportunity to be kind, forgiving, and understanding. In return, you will be happy. Try it!
The past is just training; it doesn’t define you. Think about what went wrong, but only in terms of how you will make sure that, next time, you and the people around you will know how to make sure it goes right.
10. Fearing
We’re all afraid: of what might or might not happen, of what we can’t change, or what we won’t be able to do, or how other people might perceive us.
So it’s easier to hesitate, to wait for the right moment, to decide we need to think a little longer or do some more research or explore a few more alternatives. Meanwhile days, weeks, months, and even years pass us by. And so do our dreams.
Don’t let your fears hold you back. Whatever you’ve been planning, whatever you’ve imagined, whatever you’ve dreamed of, get started on it today.
If you want to start a business, take the first step. If you want to change careers, take the first step. If you want to expand or enter a new market or offer new products or services, take the first step.
Put your fears aside and get started. Do something. Do anything, that will make you happy.
Otherwise, today is gone. Once tomorrow comes, today is lost forever. Today is the most precious asset you own–and is the one thing you should truly fear wasting.

GROW YOUR POWER

DISCOVER YOUR UNLIMITED INNER POWER
CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Friday, May 29th, 2009
What can you do to make the best choices?
Be aware that you always have a choice.

And, each choice that you make has power—
the power to expand you or limit you.
Sometimes the opportunities for choice are not always obvious.

It’s often these situations, when the choice is not obvious, that
you have a great opportunity to increase your personal power.

Jose Stevens, author of many great books on shamanism, suggests
asking yourself the questions below when you’re at a point where
you’re just not sure what to do.

* Is it serving you or are you doing it to please others and get
their approval?

* Is it moving you to a better situation where you can be more
yourself?

* Is it coming from a connection to Spirit, a force higher than you
or is it from a calculation of the rational mind that is limited?

* Will it help you experience personal growth? Does it feel
expansive or limiting?

* Is it practical without compromising who you are at the core?

Sometimes the choice you have is simply to change how you
react,
judge,
 accept
or take action
about something that’s out of your
control.

You’ll be empowered when you consciously choose your attitude and
actions in the direction of expansion. No one can take that power
away from you.

Positive choices are expansive and will connect you with a higher
force.

Negative choices are constrictive and will limit you.

You can choose to be happy or to be miserable. You can choose to
be satisfied or dissatisfied with your life. You can choose to be
judgmental or have an open mind and heart.

To Powerful Choices,
Mary

Travel Items Checklist: 10 Things I Never Travel Without

by Celes on May 31, 2013 10:46 pm | Read Online | Discuss

Flight
Quick Note: We have 28 participants registered for the anti-procrastination course this Sunday (June 2) and all ready to roll ahead! :D I’m accepting just two more participants before closing registration. As with all classes on PE, I’m not intending to conduct this course again after the first run. So sign up for the class NOW and learn how to bust procrastination permanently. See you guys on June 2! :D
Are you a frequent traveler? I am. Being an avid traveler, I’ve learned from experience that there are certain things I should always travel with because they make my life so much better. This is a list of my personal travel must-haves; use it as your personal checklist when traveling!

1. Universal Power Adapter

Travel Adapter
Different country clusters use different power socket heads. For example, countries in the European Union use a circle-shaped two-pin plug (see below), while United States uses a rectangular-shaped two-pin plug (see further below).
Travel Adapter - European Union Plug
Travel Adapter - United States Plug

Hence, you need a universal power adapter to use your power chargers in other countries—the adapter makes it possible to connect your electric device to other types of power sockets. You can get such adapters in any D.I.Y. or appliance store.
Here’s a handy chart of plug adapter shapes by country: http://www.europlugs.com/Design_Review_Polices/Plug_Adapter_Country_Chart.htm

2. International Debit Card

Credit/Debit Card
With an international debit card, you can withdraw money at any ATM machine in the world at a nominal fee. (I use the DBS Debit Card powered by Visa which charges $5 SGD for every withdrawal, regardless of the amount.) Not only that, you can use the card just like a credit card, except that the amount is directly deducted from your savings account rather than put on credit.
The nominal withdrawal fee is a huge plus over credit cards where you are subjected to cash advance charges and high interest rates. I was once forced to withdraw money in London using a credit card because I was running low on cash, and was charged an exorbitant fee due to the interest rate! Never again would I withdraw money using my credit card again.
Walk-in to your local bank and ask about international debit cards. I got mine in just five minutes and it made my recent Africa Trip so convenient because I no longer had to worry about ensuring I have enough cash on hand.

3. Ear Plugs

Ear Plugs
When traveling, there are times of long commute (such as on the bus, train, or plane) which are perfect for catching a few winks. However, just because you want to sleep doesn’t mean the environment will be conducive for sleep. I often encounter screaming kids and chatty adults who make it hard to get any rest at all.
My solution? Ear plugs. They may not block out 100% of the noise, but they are the next best thing to sleeping in a noise-free environment.
Check out ear plugs on Amazon:

4. Sleeping Mask

Sleeping Mask
Sleeping masks help you to get a sound sleep in a lit environment). I used to think that they don’t matter; but after using them, I realize that I do get a sound sleep when I have a sleeping mask on.
Some airlines like Qatar actually offer it as part of their in-flight amenities and you can keep that for future use. In any case, you can also buy one at an affordable rate. Check out this Dream Essentials Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask ($9.95 only) which comes with ear plugs and a carry pouch.

5. Local Currency

Local Currency
No matter how many credit/cards you have, it’s always good to have some local currency on hand. Some shops simply don’t accept cards while some shops may have minimum order amounts before cards can be used. (In Singapore, many shops have minimum orders of $10 or $20 SGD for credit card usage.)
Go to your local money changer and get your money changed before you go. Some changers offer better rates than others, so do your research first if you are planning to change large amounts of money. For those of you in Singapore, Money changes at Mustafa (at Little India MRT) and The Arcade (at Raffles Place MRT) offer pretty good rates.

6. Travel Kits for Toiletries

Miniature Toiletries
Instead of packing and repacking your toiletries like skincare, hair care, and dental items every time you travel, why not have separate travel kits? This means having travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, tooth brush, tooth paste, facial foam, and so on all packed in your luggage and ready to go whenever you travel. This way, you no longer have to pack these stuff whenever you travel.
Even if you stay in places where such amenities are provided, it helps to have such toiletries available. For example, there was once I was in a hotel which didn’t provide hair conditioner (weird). I had to go all the way to the mall to get a bottle of conditioner as my hair is quite dry and needs it; otherwise it becomes highly tangled during/after shower.

7. Facial Masks

Facial Masks
(This item is specific to females, though there are metrosexual males who put on masks as well! My boyfriend is an example. :D )
I like facial masks because they are fast and easy. Take a mask, put it on for 10–15 minutes, take it off, and you are done. A quick pick-me-up for the skin which is especially useful when you are on the plane (which can be drying for your skin) and when you are on the go and don’t want to fiddle around with an elaborate skincare regime.

8. Passport, Visa, and Travel Itinerary/Receipts

Passport
Passport—goes without saying. Perhaps the more useful point to ensure your passport is not within six months of expiry—airlines will not let you check in otherwise.
For visa, make sure you look up the visa requirements for the country you are traveling to. If you require a visa, budget sufficient time to get the visa before you travel. Visa HQ is your one-stop spot to check visa requirements.
Having your travel itinerary and booking receipts for your airline and accommodation on hand makes it easy for you while traveling.

9. Notebook and Pen

Notebook and Pen
Last but not least, I can never travel without my notebook and pen. There are times when I run out of battery for my laptop while commuting, when I want to brainstorm on ideas, or when I simply want to quickly pen down some thoughts and ideas, and these are times when my notebook and pen come in handy.
For you, your notebook can serve as a travel log. Not only that, traveling makes for a great opportunity for self-reflection. Use your notebook to jot down your reflections on self and life and possible plans for your life moving forward post the travel.
