What have I learnt today?

Learning is a life long process. Today I have learnt, how to wash the clothes.
For 58 years of my life, I never helped my wife in washing the clothes. Opportunity to learn washing arose as my wife had pain in knees. Today, she was my boss.
She directed me how to wash the clothes. Rather she taught me the skill of washing the clothes. So far, I had thought, the washed and ironed clothes I wore were easy to wash.
But it was my myth. I had never experienced this type of good communication with my wife.
Now, to scene in the wash room. My wife is sitting. She is directing me and feeling lot of pride and happiness as I was listening very carefully and obeying her orders given verbally and directions with her fingers.
1. Turn on the tap and fill the tub with water. I did.
2. Give me detergent and soap. I did.
3. Now I wash more dirty clothes so that no dirt is left. Fine. Please do.
4. Till then you fill the washing machine's water tub with water. Right, madam. I did politely. (I could see the glint of pride in her eyes.Today, she was feeling at cloud nine because never in life I had helped her in washing the clothes. Really missed many opportunities to be with my wife for about 2-3 hours on Sunday)
5. Just then my daughter popped her face and commented: Oh! yesterday's movie's impact. Dad is helping Mom. I smiled and again focused upon my job so that no mistake is made and my boss shout at me.
6.  Water was filled in the water tank of the washing machine. "No, it should be filled upto the small bag hanging in the water tank, " strong worded order came from my wife.
7. Right, madam was my humble and polite reply. I did as told by her. She smiled.
8. By now, she had made the clothes ready for the water tank of washing machine.
9. Now drop detergent in the water. I did accordingly.
10. Turn on the switch at 360 degrees. I did. The washing machine started circling the clothes. When the switch reached back to its starting point, she said: now take out all the clothes. I did.
11. All these clothes were then rinsed in clean water 3 times. They were ready for drier.
12. Now open the lid of the drier. Fine. I opened the lid.
13. Remove the plastic lid of the drier. I did as told.
14. Now drop these rinsed clothes in the drier. I did.
15. Close the plastic lid. Then close the main lid and turn on the switch. I did as ordered.
16. After say 5-10 minutes, the clothes in drier were dry.
17. I opened the main lid of drier, then opened the plastic lid of the drier and pulled the dried clothes.
18. Then she said: pull that pipe from the clump and leave it on the floor. Dirty waster will flow away. That's all.
It was a great experience. I had learnt a new skill i.e. washing the clothes. The communication was 100% which is rarest generally between husband and wife.
MESSAGE: Help the wife in daily chores and you will feel good. Happy mind is more productive in business too. Makes more effective decisions. When a person (any human equipped with knowledge to produce worthy of business or healing pains of human is referred to person) is happy, positive vibes bring positive results in business life.

Learning never ends

Learn an inch a day
Tomorrow it will become 2 inches
A month will make it 30 and turn
it into 365 inches in a year.

In a year you are better 365 times than non-learner. Progress in learning comes with practice. Practice, practice and practice and success in chosen field or desire will be yours.

Learning is your own self-effort. Nobody else is responsible for this.  Others can guide you. train you, mentor you. But it is solely your responsibility and accountability of self to learn whatever you wish.

I AM EVERYTHING   -    EGO FEELING
I AM NOTHING -            INFERIOR FEELING
BUT
I AM SOMETHING AND
CAN DO EVERYTHING - SELF BELIEF /SELF TRUST.

Right self belief based on honest true strengths leads to true success in life.

Identify your natural talent and you will never feel tired to exert 24/7 .

Sachin Tendulkar did not fare well in exams while young. His report card showed very poor results. Instead of using harsh words and a reprimand, his mother politely taking him in her lap asked, "what interests you, my dear little angel." The child innocently replied, " cricket." His elder brother, very next day brought a bad and ball and gave it to the child. The whole of family loved to play with the child in the house, though small.

Mother and brother did not force their will to go to school and be a scholar.

Rest is the history. Who doesn't know about Sachin Tendulkar - a great cricketer in the world?

Every child is born with a talent. Give the child free hand to choose and you will find him growing in that field because he loves his work based on natural talent.

IP is the principle of success. I =IDEA      P=PASSION.

Idea means what has value in the real world i.e. what sells.    Passion is honest efforts with love and devotion to turn that idea into success.

Learning is the beginning of knowledge,
Learning is the beginning of job into career
Learning is the beginning of spirituality
Learning is the magic that transforms your dreams into reality.

So, love learning, change your attitude and your world will change.
Progress in learning comes through practice, practice and practice and it is old saying "Practice Makes a man Perfect." You are perfect in your own way. Don't let negative thoughts or negative self-talk deteriorate your determination.
Talk yourself positive everyday.
I am a complete person.
I am master of my own life.
I listen to other and learn a lot from them.
I know when I speak, I repeat what I already know
But when I listen to others, I know what I don't know.

LISTENING IS BETTER THAN SPEAKING.

Creating Student Focussed Lessons

One framework to help create intentional, focused lessons is described in Understanding by Design by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe (2005).

Often referred to as backward design, the process has teachers set clear, measureable targets before they create instructional activities.

The stages of backward design can be seen in below Figure ;

Figure  UbD: Stages of Backward Design

Source: From Understanding by Design (expanded 2nd Ed.) Alexandria.

Identify desired results:

What should students know, understand, and be able to do? These outcomes typically come from standards, curriculum expectations, and pacing guides.
Determine acceptable evidence:

How will we know if students have achieved the desired results and met the standards? This can include both formal and informal evidence of student understanding and proficiency.
Plan learning experiences and instruction:

What activities will equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills? By choosing activities and strategies after clear, measureable results have been identified, instruction becomes more purposeful and intentional.
Important decisions must be made in each of these areas, but much of the real work of instructional design lies between the boxes in Figure in the arrows. How do we translate the results we desire into behaviors we can measure? And how do we create tasks and experiences that lead to these measureable outcomes?

3 Attitudes

1." I" attitude: The most common among the people but least important. The speaker uses the word "I" in his speech frequently that represents that the speaker is self -centered and does not care for others' views. Quite dangerous and damaging for the society. Limited thinking, limited knowledge and limited learning. Humans having this attitude are pseudo to animals.

2. "You" attitude: The person having this attitude listens to others with a view to understand. This is better than the attitude #1. Most of the communication bridges are the outcome of this attitude. Like minded people are found by using this attitude.

3. "We" attitude: This attitude is difficult to develop but not impossible. Spirituality helps a lot in developing this attitude. Feeling of soul, god in all living creatures including humans irrespective of caste, creed, color, nationality, gender is the ingredient of this attitude.

SARASWATI & LAKSHAMI

A father who throughout life followed the principle " Learning is greater than wealth". Wealth when follows learning gives more pleasure than when it is master of man.

Our great father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi says: Wealth is lost, nothing is lost;

Health is lost something is lost.

Character is lost, everything is lost.

Son was young, full of energy. He was college-going. Everyday he argued with father that car, smart phone and costly gadgets are bought with money and hence money is greater than learning.

Father was aged, experienced and seasoned.

He was always in the look out of an opportunity to prove that "learning is master of wealth"

But he could not prove this to his young son. Daily arguments and demand of money by the son had vitiated the congenial environment at home.

One day, father got a chance to prove his point.

Father's friend had bought a very costly diamond ring for his daughter-in-law.

Father asked the friend to lend him that ring for a while. Friend readily gave.

Now father, gave the studded case of the ring to the son and told that it has cost Rs._______________________ . But the son argued,
" Papa, who fool will pay such a fatty sum of money for this empty case?"

"Exactly my dear son, everybody pays for the diamond inside this case not for the case."

Case is the box in which the diamond ring is placed.

"In the same way, learning is diamond and wealth is the case."

Son, though did not admit openly but agreed as was visible from his body language.

Right from that day, the son is focusing more on study and less on demands for costly gadgets.

Learning

Learning is a life long process. Even the last day of life a person learns what happens when a person goes from this world.

A course in Entrepreneurship or any field of learning, I mean education, teaches techniques which help in times of need.

In MBA minimum 30 and maximum 45 or more subjects are taught. Does this mean that all the subjects are used by the students in life or career? The learning of these subjects enable the student to be aware about the  environment and be fit to carry on his job.

Tools and techniques have helped humanity to grow. Earlier humans had tools made of wood and stone, then iron and then silicon etc. etc.

A computer is a tool and internet is technique with which the user can have interface with the entire world. This write up has reached you through internet. I wanted to learn Photoshop, Corel Draw and Adobe page Maker at this age of 55. I was feeling shy to go to the school or college and learn these. But I opened Google and searched for tutorials. Free tutorials and videos on You Tube were watched. Now I am able to work with Photoshop, Corel Draw and Adobe Page Maker. In a year's time, I shall become an expert and better than many who have got formal education about these software in schools or colleges. Techniques learnt.

Techniques enable a person to achieve what he conceives and believes. Milkha Singh- the flying Sikh from India won the gold medal in Commonwealth Games 400 mtr race by employing the technique told and taught by his mentor.

His mentor observed that the rival in the race of 400 mtrs. employs a particular technique. His rival was winning the gold medals in the earlier Commonwealth Games. The mentor told: Look Milkha Singh your rival - the present Gold Medalist -runs first 300 mts. very slow and in the last 100 mtrs. he picks up the speed and leaves all the participants behind.

In this Commonwealth Games you will employ different technique. You will run fast in the first 300 mitrs and fast too in the last 100 mtrs race. Milkha Singh practiced with this technique in min and  employed the technique in Common Wealth 400 mtr. race and won the Gold Medal. Gold Medal was given by honourable Queen while the Indian flag was flying and national anthem was being played. Milkha Singh won 77 times out of 88 events which itself is a record.

This is the wonder of techniques. A course equips a person with techniques. Bigger the arsenal  better the combat.

News Detail

77 years old appears in IGNOU entrance exam

28 October, 2012
Openness and flexibility have always been a prominent feature of any ODL system, but success of this learners friendly system also depends upon learners attitude towards it. Especially in the case of elderly people between the age group of 60 years and above. But, when a person is determined to achieve something, age does not matter. It turned into reality when a 77 years old candidate appeared in M.Phil/ Ph.D. entrance examination at Indira Gandhi National Open University headquarters.
The candidate Mr. Binay Kumar (Mobile No.09430225564) who come far from Patna to take the test has already completed successfully the Post Graduate in Distance Education (PGDDE) and Master of Arts in Distance Education (MADE) from Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), IGNOU.
Surprisingly, septuagenarian Mr. Kumar was not alone at the examination centre, there were about 10 more aspirants in 55-65 age group who turned up to take the entrance examination this year. But Mr. Kumar was the eldest among all of them and as serious as his younger competitors.
1936 born, Mr. Binay Kumar, spent more than 30 years of his life in government job and retired from the service in 1994. He worked as a research officer (Statistics) in Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Bihar.
When he was asked, what were the motivating factors which forced him to take test for the admission in Ph.D. in Distance Education, Kumar replied, “I had attended 13th conference of Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) held in Delhi in 1994 as a common participant. The theme of the conference was ‘Structure and Management of Open Learning System’. After attending the deliberations during the various technical sessions I realized that the theme of the conference was similar to my spiritual organization which focuses on better life and education for all. At the same conference I decided to pursue higher education which is a best mode to provide education to all sections of the society at affordable cost.”
I want to study further because, “It helps you in maintain regularity and discipline in your daily life; apart from this I believe in life-long learning process,” adds Mr. Kumar.
This ambitious person lives in Shri Krishna Nagar locality in Patna, and has four well settled sons and two daughters. One of the sons is doctor, another lawyer, third one is working with the Punjab National Bank while the fifth one is settled in Canada. Both the daughters are post graduate, teaching in government high schools.

Unwraping Minds

From the desk of a psychologist!

What to knit your life with?

Have you ever felt drained sitting next to a person while some just refreshes you?
Life is simple ; each individual is unique, no two can be the same . A logical question should be “Why are we called social animals then?”
It’s the connections we have with individuals at various levels. We humans have social needs which are fulfilled by these connections. But the million dollar question is could you fill all these places with any random person? To answer this  I have to ask you one thing, could you put any piece to a puzzle and make a sane picture?
There is a  click with some people and it has nothing to do with how similar you are . You connect  with someone and find that person fulfilling a certain social need of yours making you more contended and happy but that doesn’t mean he/she is the only one for all your needs. This person is just a part of a whole huge picture which is made of many such connections. You connect with someone as a friend, someone else on an intellectual level while someone looks after the call of your heart and so on.
But there is also a major unsaid pressure from the society on us to form these connections. It is not necessary that at the beginning of our journey we would find the exact piece to fit in the puzzle of our life but when we see or assume these pieces fitting in other people’s life we force to fake these bonds. Our hunger for social satisfaction also forces us to make hurried decisions. We make friends with whom we aren’t comfortable, we become close to people with whom we have few/no things to celebrate about.
This pressure is on both introverts & extroverts. As an introvert, you are pushed to be with people, even if it drains you and you aren’t comfortable with them. You are refused to wait for beautiful connections to happen which makes you enjoy your solitude more and more. While an extrovert, due to his compulsion to be around people, finds lots of them but end up feeling still lonely most of the time.
This in place of making us more contended, takes away the zeal out of our life. The human threads which are supposed to support us actually burdens us. We forget our individuality and instead of growing start carrying baggages. Sometimes we find the bonds which make us stronger but lose them with time and in search of the same kind of support find people who are not our match.
If we are in such a kind of relationship, are we doing justice to it and the other person/s involved in it. I am sure he/she is tolerating us the same way, we are tolerating them in our lives. This whole arrangement is unhealthy. The beauty of relationships and human connection is lost. Wake up before it’s too late and you become responsible for either hurting someone or ruining your experience as a result. Wait for the right piece for your puzzle and trust me it is worth waiting!
Enjoy your solitude and grab opportunities to connect with people with similar thought processes or for that matter someone with whom you can just have FUN! Never rush yourself, everything has a time. When we are waiting we feel that it is never going to end, this makes us impatient resulting in bad choices. But, that doesn’t mean that when something/ somebody does make sense, you still wait for the perfect one ( we all know no one/ nothing is  perfect).
Life is all about trials & errors. Start living and exploring new human connections, even if it is not going to be your life altering relationship, it sure will teach you some new things.
“We are all so much together, but we are all dying of loneliness.”
― Albert Schweitzer
