PRAYER PAYS

Ajay Pandey
innervoice@hindustantimes.com

Prayer is the core of every religion. A moment of prayer is a moment of isolation, self-realisation and deep introspection. It makes one feel that no existence in this world is more than a drop in the ocean.

When you pray, not only do you accept the supremacy of God, you also surrender yourself in his service and seek his blessings. This is another subtle way to get rid of one’s ego and become more humane and accommodating.

Even if one is praying with so many people, he is actually not a part of any collective phenomenon . He is more like a discrete unit that has its own identity in an apparent continuum.

The gleam of hope an individual may be harboring in the gloomiest of times has its foundation emanating from faith and prayer. Those words uttered in private have an indefinable strength and the capacity to travel fast, very fast indeed.

In fact, it’s rightly believed that neither a bullet, nor sound, nor even light can march the pace of which a simple, pure, prayer travels.

It reaches God even before the individual says it.

It truly establishes a heart-to-heart contact between a human being and the supreme power.

No amount of external peace can take care of the turbulence within. The inner peace looks for solace through different instruments and mediums, and prayer is surely one of them. The responses to agonies of the past, the turmoil of present and the hopes linked to our future, all find a silently flowing expression in prayer and purpose of life starts become clearer and clearer.

Prayer might assume different forms but all forms, though different in expression, have the same objective – to bow to that supreme. A prayer is a strong weapon available to human beings to seek answers to their queries that more often than not appear to be baffling.

It’s our moral duty to inculcate the importance of faith and prayer in our coming generations because this is wherein lies the hope for the whole of human civilization for peaceful co-existence.

PRAYER IS A FREE CALL 2 GOD. No battery, no charging, no network problem, endless talk time. So pray to God and start your day. You will really feel fresh, happy and enlightening day by day.

God! Bless My Friends

Let all my friends be healthy and happy forever...!
GOD said: But for 4 days only....!
I said: Yes, let them be a Spring Day, Summer Day, Autumn Day, and Winter Day.
GOD said: 3 days.
I said: Yes, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
GOD said: No, 2 days!
I said: Yes, a Bright Day (Daytime) and Dark Day (Night-time).
GOD said: No, just 1 day!
I said: Yes!
GOD asked: Which day?
I said: Every Day in the living years of all my friends!
GOD laughed, and said: All your friends will be healthy and happy Every Day!
Send this to your friends and bless them with good health and happiness...
Pass on the warmth despite the ever-changing weather...
P.S.: GOD said Good friends must keep in contact!

USE IT OR LOSE IT.

Dear Friend,
While doing something, at times, you will feel like not being able to recall what you already know. You will feel desperate to recall and frantically concentrate all your energy to be able to bring it to your mind. Why does it happen?

Sometimes, things come automatically to your mind and you are at liberty to use them according to your requirement. It also happens quite often. What is the reason? There is a third situation too. What you are not able to recall at one point of time, springs to your mind all once at some other point of time. You once again feel like asking yourself- why does it happen at all? Sometimes, you just wonder and on other occasions, get nervous as you are unable make out the phenomenon that takes place at the mental level. The same mind which forgets something recalls it the next moment.

Your mind has extremely large and huge capacity. Use it or lose it. Practice enables you to keep your knowledge at your fingertips. You can use all your knowledge at will, if you constantly practise it. However sharp a knife may be, it is not used for a long time, its edge gets rusted and the knife becomes blunt. You knowledge is just like that knife. Disuse keeps it far from your conscious mind and further, into your unconscious mind which is like a lumbar room where all your impressions lie in untidy heaps. You should try to keep your knowledge in orderly manner. All your knowledge can remain tidy, if it is in current use. Continuity can do wonder. It can enable you to understand even the inexplicable aspects of everything. If you do not succeed in your first attempt, do not give up. Keep doing and the victory is ultimately yours. Your continuous effort has the power to change the seemingly impossible into possible.

Your mind has immense power. All it needs is training. Training will empower it to solve intricate riddles effortlessly. Once you achieve this capacity, you will have easy access to all that you know. You can draw upon your knowledge in a fraction of a second.

Always remember that it is not enough to start doing something. You have to continue until you accomplish this task.

WE have before us the example of the new Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO), Chief, Dr.R.Radhakrishanan. His continuous effort played a key role in a number of our country’s ambitious space projects including Chandrayan-1. Now, he is getting prepared for sending Chandrayan-2 which will launch a rover on the Moon as well. All his knowledge has been at his fingertips that has helped him change the seemingly impossible tasks into possible ones.

Use him as a Role Model and march towards success.

TRY, TRY, TRY AGAIN

When nothing seems to help,
I go and look at a stonecutter
Hammering away at a rock
Perhaps a hundred times
Without as much as a
Crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred and first
Blow, it splits in two,
And I know it was not
That blow that did it –
but all that gone before.

FRUSTRATION- A POSITIVE FORCE

Everyone experiences one kind of frustration or another everyday. Whenever we are crushed under it, it becomes a chronic type of negative feeling. But when we derive some stimulation from it, it helps us solve a problem, not to yield to it. So, frustration can be turned into a positive force.

We have a servo-mechanism within us which can create ideas and find solutions to problems transforming us into creative artists. Instead, too many of us jam our creative mechanism with worry, anxiety and fear. This jamming of the creative servo-mechanism doesn’t serve us at all. It inhibits us from our goals, putting a road-block of negation in front of us, creating frustration.

The road blocks of frustration are: We worry not only before making decision but after we carry this in our minds all day. The cure? Express anxiety before, but not after making a decision. Once we choose a road to take, we must stop worrying and call upon the confidence of past successes to guide us in the present.

We must stop the worry and feel about yesterday, today and tomorrow. Think of only TODAY. Treat everyday as complete lifetime. Do your best, respond to the present. Try, Try, Try, - now, now.

Don’t clutter your day. Do one thing at a time. It frees you from the burden of hurry and failure.

Relax well. Put aside everything. A good night’s rest brings a beautiful and hopeful day back. Don’t wrestle with your problems twenty-four hours. So relaxation helps you overcome frustration. Don’t think of it. Work for it. Do it – Now. Remember these words of Plato- “Nothing in the affairs of men is worth worrying about.”

BRETHING FOR ENERGY AND HEALTH

Svami Vivekananda says, “Human body needs breathing and eating. It generates energy. Energy is depleted 95% in thinking and 5% in doing.” Everybody breathes but lately, I have experimented with myself and discovered “how to breathe for energy and healthy mind.”

And in lighter vein, half the time of life is wasted in ,"thinking without work" and rest half is wasted in "working withouth thinking."

Fast Breathing:

1. Look in the mirror and observe your face.
Stand up or sit down comfortably.
2. Clench your teeth as tightly as you can.
3. Breathe in through nostril in the beginning slowly.
4. Breathe out through nostril in the beginning slowly.
5. Breathe in through nostril as fast as you can.
6. Breath out through nostril as fast as you can.
7. Repeat this exercise for 15-20 times.
8. Now again look in the mirror and observe your face.

Benefits:

You will find that your face is glowing.
Blood and oxygen has acted to do this.
Skin glows. Toxins decrease. Digestion improves.

SLOW BREATHING:

Sit in a comfortable posture.
Keep your spine erect.
Now put right thumb on left nostril and block it.
Inhale through left nostril slowly, slowly as if you are watering the plants with a hand-held fountain.
Hold the breath in the body for some time and closing eyes see what is happening.
Observing the breath is a beautiful experience. Do this.
As the breath moves from one organ to another organ, that organ gets new energy.
More you can do. While your eyes are closed and breath is in the body, meet your all organs. You may call each and every organ by name. For Example: Hello my brain, how are you. Hello my ears, how are you. I am thankful to you because you are serving me for all these years.
Keep on meeting with every organ using the same phrase but changing the name like eyes, lips, nostrils, throat, gall bladder, heart, lungs, stomach, liver, kidneys, appendix, pancreas, bladder, genital, knees, feet and go out through feet. Feel your breath going out of the feet.
In the next attempt move your breath meeting head, hair, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands and go out after the hands.
Now exhale by blocking the left nostril with third and fourth finger of your right hand and lifting the thumb from the right nostril.
Inhale and exhale as slowly as you can.
Energized. It improves your immune system and elevates your low-order intelligence.

RIGHT WAY TO BREATHE:

Lord Krishna in Srimad Bhagvat Gita says, “ Man is like a tree upside down. He has his roots on the top i.e. head and branches down wards i.e. trunk.” Breathing is like watering the plant or tree. Do we water the tree from top i.e. through leaves and fruits? No, we don’t. We water the plant through roots and only then the plant grows into a tree well.

For right breathing:

Inhale through nostrils closing your eyes.
Now feel as if your breath is going to your head, ears, eyes, throat, heart, stomach and downward towards your genitals.
Now turn your breath from genitals to your back i.e. back bone and feel as if it is going upward.
Move it up to you head.
You will feel as if your blocked mind is opening.
Repeat it as many times as you can.
You can do while sitting, lying on bed while going to sleep or any other comfortable time.

Benefits:

1. Relaxes mind.
2. Manages anger.
3. Improves blood circulation.
4. Reduces stress.
5. Improves decision making.
6. Leads low-order thinking to higher order thinking that in general parlance called, “ Sieving the grains from the chaff.”
7. More you can practice, experience, observe and add.

FIT ZONE

FIT ZONE

By Bharat Thakur*

It’s all in the mind.

Out of the million inhabiting every corner of the world, there are only a few who catch our eye and appear to be different from the rest. Something about their personality seems to draw us to them and makes us want to believe every word they say: whether true or not.

What is it about some people that make them so charming? Usually it has nothing to do with looks. How a person on the outside does not affect his inner true self. It is all about how you carve yourself mentally and emotionally. You need to control your mental and emotional being. You may do numerous asanas to work on different parts of the body, but you reap the true benefits of yoga when you are also able to work on your mind and your attitude. After all, in the words of the great sage Patanjali, “yohag chitt varitti nirodah” or Yoga is a technique of control of mind.
The eight-fold path to yoga or Ashtang yoga comprises yama, niyama, pratyahara, asana, pranayama, dharana, dhyana and Samadhi.
The first three yama, niyama, pratyahara help one to gain control over mind. They teach the basic principles of leading a good and peaceful life, something that we often choose to ignore and hence make our lives complicated. Having a set of values to abide by, good physical mental hygiene and control over senses makes one strong and fearless and source of inspiration for others. You will become so independent that you will not be affected by the world around you. You will not have to look any where for solutions to problems. The solutions will come from within.
You will have not to depend upon anyone for happiness. You will be the source of your happiness. If you look at the world around you, this is what most people lack and this also what only a few possess that makes them charming and magnetic.
A good leader is one who has the clarity of mind and control over his senses. Trataka helps in balancing the nervous system and develops a strong will power, memory and concentration. Nadi Shodhana Asana balances and harmonises the flow of energy in the body. Moorcha Pranayama takes this balance to a higher-level cutting out distractions from the outside world and helps attaining high state of mental tranquility.

NADISHODHANA PRANAYAMA
· Sit in any meditative posture.
· Bend forefinger and middle finger of your right hand.
Close your eyes and practice deep breathing.
· Close right nostril with thumb place ring finger between eyebrows and inhale through left nostril to count of 15.
· Exhale slowly through left nostril to count of 20.
· Do the same for 10-15 times.
· Now close your left nostril with ring and little fingers. Place thumb finger between eyebrows and inhale and exhale through right nostril.
· Do it for 10-15 times.

TRATAKA
Part A.
Raise your arm keeping fist clenched and thumb at eye level.
Focus on the tip of thumb without blinking.]
Now, keeping the eyes focused on the top of the thumb, move the arm to one side.
Now move to the other side.
Repeat 3 to 5 times.
Part B
Now, rub the palms of both hands together till they feel warm.
Place the palms over both eyes and feel the warmth spread from the palms to the eyes.
Feel the eyes relax and focus for a minute on the soothing darkness.
Hold the position until the warmth of the palms has been transferred to the eyes.
Repeat three times.

MOORCHCHA PRANAYAMA

Sit in the comfortable meditation asana(Preferably padmasana)
Keep the head and spine straight.
Relax the whole body.
Observe the breath until becomes slow and deep, then slowly inhale through both nostrils with ujjayi pranayama, while gently and smoothly bending the head slightly back.
Perofrm Shambavi mudra (eyes steady looking in the void and keep the mind focused in the heart.)
Keep the arms straight by locking the elbows and pressing the knees with the hands.
Retain the breath inside for as long as is compfortable.
Exhale slowly while relaxing the arms. Close the eyes and bring the head back to the upright position.
Relax the whole body for a few seconds, keeping the eyes closed. Expereince the lightness and tranquility in the mind and body.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 2009

YES, YOU CAN

Don’t Think You Cannot,
Think You Can.

Dear Friend,

You can start to maximize your mind power simply by understanding how your mind works and how you store and access information. In fact, you are gifted with the ability to develop your brain in order to become able to do more, have more and be more.
In other words, you must know how your mind works and how it accesses information effortlessly, how to programme your mind. You have to remain conscious of the fact that your mind is like an air traffic controller and takes in any information and directs it according to its current knowledge.

Without your being aware, new information is stored the moment it comes in – each time you access it, the more hard-wired it becomes.
One thing should never be lost track of – mind and body constantly interact. It is your mind which regulates even your breathing pattern which you are always unmindful of. It is your mind which actually ensures that what your heart does not skip a beat. You can have an idea of the immense power of mind whenever you perform a habitual but complex task without conscious effort on your part. For example, when you multiply two figures, you draw upon your memory of multiplication tables. It is done easily and effortlessly, because you had had to repeat them as a child for countless times to get them by heart.

In other words, keep doing a thing till you get mastery over it. Your mind has infinite potentiality. It is simply your will to do a task which matters. Never think that anything is impossible. With a positive mind you can readily access the information you have stored. Training and exercise are tools to programme your mind and a way that can use it when it is needed.

It is power of mind that has done wonders by winning the most coveted prize in the world, the Nobel Peace Prize for the US President, Mr. Barack Obama. The committee attached “special importance to Obama’s vision and work for a world without nuclear weapons” and said he had created “ a new climate in international politics.” Head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Thorbjorn Jagland said Mr. Obama was honoured “for his extraordinary effort to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” and added that it was “ a unanimous decision”. The committee said it was seeking to encourage Mr. Obama’s ideals rather than recognize concrete results. The jury, in fact hailed Mr. Obama’s “extraordinary” effort in international diplomacy and to hasten nuclear disarmament.
Wishing and working for your success.
THINK YOU CAN

You have powers
You never dreamt of
You can do things
You never thought
You could do.
There are no limitations
In what you can do
Except the limitations
In your own mind
As to what
You cannot do
Don’t think you cannot.
Think you can.

DEEPAVALI GREETINGS

A Happy & Prosperous Diwali to You All

Deepawali or Diwali is certainly the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals. It's the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that's marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy. Each of the four days in the festival of Diwali is separated by a different tradition, but what remains true and constant is the celebration of life, its enjoyment and goodness.

Historically, the origin of Diwali can be traced back to ancient India, when it was probably an important harvest festival. However, there are various legends pointing to the origin of Diwali. Some believe it to be the celebration of the marriage of Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. Whereas in Bengal the festival is dedicated to the worship of Mother Kali, the dark goddess of strength. Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed God, the symbol of auspiciousness and wisdom, is also worshipped in most Hindu homes on this day. In Jainism, Deepawali has an added significance to the great event of Lord Mahavira attaining the eternal bliss of nirvana. Diwali also commemorates the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman from his fourteen year long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas (oil lamps) and burst crackers.

The Significance of Lights & Firecrackers

All the simple rituals of Diwali have a significance and a story to tell. The illumination of homes with lights and the skies with firecrackers is an expression of obeisance to the heavens for the attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. According to one belief, the sound of fire-crackers are an indication of the joy of the people living on earth, making the gods aware of their plentiful state. Still another possible reason has a more scientific basis: the fumes produced by the crackers kill a lot of insects and mosquitoes, found in plenty after the rains

From Darkness Unto Light...

In each legend, myth and story of Deepawali lies the significance of the victory of good over evil; and it is with each Deepawali and the lights that illuminate our homes and hearts, that this simple truth finds new reason and hope. From darkness unto light — the light that empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds, that which brings us closer to divinity. During Diwali, lights illuminate every corner of India and the scent of incense sticks hangs in the air, mingled with the sounds of fire-crackers, joy, togetherness and hope. Diwali is celebrated around the globe. Outside India, it is more than a Hindu festival, it's a celebration of South-Asian identities. If you are away from the sights and sounds of Diwali, light a diya, sit quietly, shut your eyes, withdraw the senses, concentrate on this supreme light and illuminate the soul.

10 Reasons to Celebrate Diwali

1.Goddess Lakshmi’s Birthday: The Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi incarnated on the new moon day (amaavasyaa) of the Kartik month during the churning of the ocean (samudra-manthan) , hence the association of Diwali with Lakshmi.

2. Vishnu Rescued Lakshmi: On this very day (Diwali day), Lord Vishnu in his fifth incarnation as Vaman-avtaara rescued Lakshmi from the prison of King Bali and this is another reason of worshipping Ma Larkshmi on Diwali.

3. Krishna Killed Narakaasur: On the day preceding Diwali, Lord Krishna killed the demon king Narakaasur and rescued 16,000 women from his captivity. The celebration of this freedom went on for two days including the Diwali day as a victory festival.

4. The Return of the Pandavas: According to the great epic ‘Mahabharata’, it was ‘Kartik Amavashya’ when the Pandavas appeared from their 12 years of banishment as a result of their defeat in the hands of the Kauravas at the game of dice (gambling). The subjects who loved the Pandavas celebrated the day by lighting the earthen lamps.

5. The Victory of Rama : According to the epic ‘Ramayana’, it was the new moon day of Kartik when Lord Ram, Ma Sita and Lakshman returned to Ayodhya after vanquishing Ravana and conquering Lanka. The citizens of Ayodhya decorated the entire city with the earthen lamps and illuminated it like never before.

6. Coronation of Vikramaditya: One of the greatest Hindu King Vikramaditya was coroneted on the Diwali day, hence Diwali became a historical event as well.

7. Special Day for the Arya Samaj: It was the new moon day of Kartik (Diwali day) when Maharshi Dayananda, one of the greatest reformers of Hinduism and the founder of Arya Samaj attained his nirvana.

8. Special Day for the Jains: Mahavir Tirthankar, considered to be the founder of modern Jainism also attained his nirvana on Diwali day.

9. Special Day for the Sikhs: The third Sikh Guru Amar Das institutionalized Diwali as a Red-Letter Day when all Sikhs would gather to receive the Gurus blessings. In 1577, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar was laid on Diwali. In 1619, the sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind, who was held by the Mughal Emperor Jahengir, was released from the Gwalior fort along with 52 kings.

10. 17.10.2009. Barak Hussain Obama, the President of USA becomes the first president of USA to celebrate Dewali with people of Indian Origin in USA. Barak Obama has been selected by Nobel Prize Foundation for Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2009.

THANKS GOOGLE

GOOGLE SAVED ME FROM THE TRAP

Dear Friends,

Recently, I received an invitation, an original excerpt of which is given below:

"We are GYO( GLOBAL YOUTH ORGANIZATION FOR HUMAN RIGHT) California, USA. We are inviting you to a Global Combined Conference taking place from 17th to 20th November 2009 in Anaheim Convention center California, USA and from 24th to 27th November 2009 in Olympic Stadium Hall Dakar Senegal, west-Africa.

Organizing Committee will provide round Trip Air tickets and accommodation for the period of participants Stay in The United States, to all registered participants.

Delegates will only be responsible for their own hotel booking in Africa were the second phase of the events will be held. If you are a holder of an international passport that may require visa to enter the United States/Dakar Senegal you may inform the conference secretariat at the time of registration, as the organizing committee is responsible for all visa arrangements."

In reply to this invitation, taking it genuine, I gave the sender my consent to attend the event and enquired that how will they reimburse my and my group’s expenses incurred for attending the events. The emails sent by me were not delivered to the addressee. It caused a sense of suspicion in my mind. I searched for Global Youth Organization sites. But I was surprised to read that the emails were a trap. They were fake. The sender asks the attendee to pay a hefty sum of money for booking the hotel in Africa and do not respond. I am thankful to Google for this help.

HAPPINESS @ Work-1

GEMS OF ANCIENT WISDOM
The Right Career
TODAY, the workplace looks like a battlefront with burnouts, low work satisfaction, ‘meager’ salaries and office politics.

While many of us are miserable at work, there are many others who make sure that the ones around them are in constant turmoil.

In recession-hit times, one may not get to move to the ‘perfect’ workplace.

Plus, characters who disturb one’s peace can be encountered in every office.

So, if you can’t choose your colleagues and cannot move to a better job, what can you change?
“Be the change you want to see,” said Mahatma Gandhi.

To guide us on this path of change are the words of sterling personalities of yesteryears and many incidents from the scriptures.

Small changes in your thought, action and speech will lead to a happier you and a better work environment as happy workers translate into a better workforce.

HAPPINESS @ WORK

As each man’s special aptitude is known
Bid each man make that special work his own,
Wrote saint Thiruvalluvar in his “Thrikkural”

If given a choice, choose a job that gives you job instead of the one that pays more or has more takers.

Instead of becoming an Emperor or as a King, Suddhodana planned, his son, prince Siddhartha, chose knowledge over money and became the Buddha.

On being asked why Mirza Galib, unlike his ancestors, chose the pen instead of the sword, Ghalib said, “To polish the mirror and show in it the face of meaning – that too is a mighty work.”

There is nothing better than having a job you love and getting paid for it. This way, one will look forward to Mondays and will never be late for work.

You will put in your 100 per cent and a little ‘extra’ without expecting to be compensated for it.

INNER VOICE- TRUE HAPPINESS

THE THORNY PATH
TO
TRUE HAPPINESS
By Rekha Singal

Life is a mystery, no doubt. The only thing that seems to be clear is that our body and the mortal world around is just an illusion. Soul is indestructible and souls that are realized get integrated into the Supreme Soul. Realized souls tear off the cordons of the mortal world and are beyond all luxuries, lavishness, consumption, accumulations, and show-ups.

They are divinely focused on helping, sacrificing, serving and are strong enough to sustain worldly pains. Kabeer was a great saint and had all these qualities. In our own times, Aurobindo Gosh, who topped the ICS exams held in London, decided to quit the powerful Civil Services world and be in the service of humanity at large.

There would be many other examples worldwide. One thing common in all these divine personages is that they pursued the most thorny path to true happiness.

As they say, “a healthy body, a healthy mind”. One can extend the adage to “a healthy body, a healthy soul.” Hence physical health is very important for performing the worldly duties for which you are born on this earth. Also, physical body is very necessary for all spiritual pursuits like help, service, sacrifice etc.

Therefore, one must take care of your physical health. Take things lightly but take ‘meditation’ very seriously.

Eat well but the right type only.

Rest enough.

Do not worry at all what the world is going to say and help those who deserve.

The quality of life undergoes miraculous changes when some of these rules are followed.
.
Of course, one can become Gautam Budha ony one musters the grand courage to quit all worldly attractions and illusions. That comes ordinary mortals later as most of us are.
But this comes very early to those who are born like the great Gautam Budha.

Read for “light” and not for arguing or show.

LIFE’S LESSONS

POWER OF SPEECH

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two them fell into a deep pit. What the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop and they were as good as dead.
Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop.

He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, “Did you not hear us?”

The frog explained to them that he was hard of hearing. He thought they were encouraging him.

This story teaches us two lessons. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift him up and help him (or them) make it through the day.

A destructive word to someone who is down can kill him.

Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. It is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another.

BUILDING YOUR HOUSE

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer of his plans to leave the business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the pay cheque each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if could build just one more house as a personal favour. The carpenter said, “yes”, but overtime it was easy to that his heart was not in the work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior material. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house.
Then he handed the front door key to the carpenter and said, “This is your house…my gift to you.”

The carpenter was shocked

What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we would do it much differently. But you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Someone once said, “ Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Your attitude and choices you make today, help build the “house” you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely.

Basics of Life

Life is thickly sown with thorns,
and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them..
The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.........

"First Take Your Shoes Off....Back to Basics...."
The other day I was at the club, getting ready to go for work out, and I was standing in the row of lockers talking to another guy. I heard a couple of kids come in behind me. It was obvious from their conversation that they were about five & three years old and they were going to go swimming. Suddenly the older boy says to the younger one in a scolding voice, "Joe, you have to take your shoes off before you take your pants off." I turned around and there was this three-year old sitting on the ground, trying to take his pants off over those huge waffle-stomper boots! The guy I was talking to said, "That is good basic life instruction! " I said, "I'm gonna use that for an article someday."
Indeed:
Always take your shoes off before you take your pants off... It made me think about how often we try to get so sophisticated in our quest for success and personal growth but isn't it really true that all success begins with the basics? In fact, perhaps the struggles we have are because we have gotten away from the Basics.

With that in mind I gave some thought to the Basics in a few areas.
Here they are :
Business-
  1. Always produce a good product-
  2. Be honest-
  3. Under-promise and over-deliver-
  4. Help people and money will come-
  5. Pay your people well
    Family-
  6. Put them first as they will be with you last-
  7. Treat your spouse like they are the most important person in the world - they are!-
  8. Give your kids more time than even you think that you should-
  9. Be sure to discipline your kids - they need boundaries-
  10. Take the time to create family memories-
  11. Travel as far and spend as much money as you need to make it home for special occasions - in the long run you'll be glad you did
    Relationships-
  12. Treat people the way you want to be treated-
  13. Don't speak ill of others-
  14. Always help if you can when others are in need-
  15. Find ways to make others feel special-
  16. Always tell others what you like or appreciate about them
    Health-
  17. Significantly lower your intake of "junk"-
  18. Exercise more, even if it is just a short daily walk... for 30 minutes-
  19. Drop the bad habits, like alcohol and cigarettes-
  20. Eat more fruits and vegetables

Finances-

Eliminate debt : be ruthless about this-

Take a look at where you are currently spending-

Tighten up on (or cut out) the loose stuff in your budget-

Save some money each month-

Give some money to charity/ cause of under privileged... each month

Spirituality-

Pray regularly ... its a personal practice .. so do it quietly. -

Trust God, even when it seems hard- Live what you say you believe-

Get involved in a community of faith

Emotions-

Take an inventory of your emotional health-

Work to control extremes in any emotion (emotions are good when they help to feel what we are supposed to feel, but destructive when they get to extremes)-

Allow yourself to feel emotions you have suppressedIf this list seems a little overwhelming, pick a few items you feel will make the most difference and focus on those basics!

Good Habit_How to sleep.

How to Get to Sleep and Stay Asleep

Nap every single day. Contrary to all the sleep sources that say to avoid napping during the day in order to sleep better at night, I believe it is actually a good idea to nap every day. But in order to make this work it is vital to stick to three rules:

Nap regularly

Keep it short,

and Make it in the early afternoon

1) By napping at the same time every day, your body will start to regulate itself to want to nap at that time and it will become easier to fall asleep quickly and take an efficient nap;

2) Keep it short – only nap for about 20 minutes. This length of time, a power nap, is just enough to make you feel refreshed and mentally more alert but doesn’t allow you to go into a deep sleep (which would interfere with falling asleep at night), and;

3) Make sure to nap in the early afternoon – preferably about 20 to 30 minutes after lunch, which is when your body is naturally inclined to feel sleepy, and early enough in the day to not interfere with falling asleep at night. Avoid taking a hot bath There is a lot of advice that says take a hot bath right before bed to relax yourself, but since the body needs to lower its temperature in order to fall asleep a hot bath will actually keep you up.

Make sure to give your body at least an hour to cool down after a bath and prior to going to bed. Make your room colder Similar to the point above, your body needs to cool down in order to fall asleep and stay asleep, so do what you can to make your room cool.

For me, a cool bedroom has the added benefit of nestling into a heavy comforter, and I find the heavy warmth on top of me very soothing.

Exercise intensely Don’t just “exercise”, but do so intensely, to the point of feeling physical exhaustion. At the end of the day, this is probably the single best thing for helping induce deep, restorative sleep. When I say “intensely”, I mean intense relative to your capability. For some this may mean running 5 miles, for others it may mean a brisk 20 minute walk that elevates the heart rate. Physical tiredness is absolutely essential to getting a good night’s sleep. An acute session of moderate aerobic exercise, but not heavy aerobic or moderate strength exercises can improve the amount and quality of sleep for people with insomnia Limit red wine I can drink a few beers or glasses of white wine and sleep fine, but when it comes to red wine any more than one single solitary glass and I'm in for a poor night's sleep. Drinking more than one glass of red wine is a sure-fire way to wake me up after a few hours’s of sleep and makes it impossible to get back to sleep.

Get out in the sunlight soon after waking up in the morning. When you wake up, don’t lounge around in bed. Don’t even stay inside.

If possible, get out in the morning sun soon after getting up. The bright sunlight (or any bright light) tells your body’s natural biological clock that its time to wake up, and that same clock will then be set to tell your body its time to go to sleep about 14 to 16 hours hours later

Don’t watch TV Avoid watching TV (or looking at a computer screen) at least 30 minutes before you go to bed. Many sources of sleep advice say to watch TV or do something similar like surfing the Internet to wind down before bed, but I think this is bad advice. Watching TV and going online are both mentally and visually stimulating.

It may feel physically restful, but these activities stimulate the brain instead of helping the brain wind down enough to fall into sleep. Find a bedtime ritual that works for you Warm milk? Yech. A cup of herbal tea? No thank you. These are commonly advised to help you rest and fall asleep. I say find the routine that works for you - whatever it is - and just do it every night.

For me, it’s the simple act of shutting the house down.

Turning off all the lights, picking up stray toys, reviewing the schedule for the next day, planning breakfast for the morning rush, and locking each door. Feeling organized about the house helps me feel less anxious. This simple routine tells my body that its time to close down for the day, and it really does help. Find what helps you feel less anxious at the end of the day and incorporate into a nightly ritual. Do what it takes to manage stress in your life At some points in our lives we are burdened by a great deal of stress. It may be chronic pain or other health condition, a family or work situation, financial stress, or all combined.

And the stressful situation may well be unavoidable. But do what you can to take some control over the stress. There are so many ways to do this -- I encourage you to try some and just keep trying until you find what works for you. Simple meditation works best for me. It forces my mind to focus on something, thereby freeing up all the clutter to float to the surface, be recognized, and be gone. For others it is guided imagery, either with the help of a professional or with CD’s, regular massage, yoga or tai chi, calming music, or a therapeutic run or bike ride after work.

We all have different preferences -- try one that sounds appealing, but if you find it difficult to stick with it, then try a different one. Keep pen and notebook next to your bed Often when I’m lying in bed, or even while I’m sleeping, I’ll think of a new idea for work. Or I’ll remember something important that I forgot to do during the day. Rather than try to remember it, which causes anxiety (which is stimulating) I write it down so it exists on paper and doesn’t have to stay in my head. And if I keep a notebook for these things right next to my bed I find I’m more likely to write it down. The preceding tips worked perfectly for me and I hope will give you at least some ideas of what will work for you, too. What do you think? Do you have a tip that didn’t make my list? Let us know in the comments.
