10 TIPS TO CRACK CAT 2011
20 days Testing Window for CAT 2011 is going to be opened from October 22, 2011 to November 18, 2011 for admission to various IIMs. Last date for applying is September 28, 2011. Forms are available with Axis Bank. Many students panic a lot and do not work hard. They are more worried about result than working hard for the competition. Here are 10 tips (Tip# 6 very important) that can improve your performance in the competition and ensure your success:
1. Take a photograph of yours of A-3 size and below the photograph write your name and " I am the best." " God will not help me if I don't help myself." Now you paste this photograph in your reading room or at the place where you study. Look at this photograph many times. It will energize you.
2. Devote these 2 months i.e. 24hrs x 55 days= 1320 hrs totally for your preparation. Close the door of your room and sit inside the room. Always think about CAT and work hard only for CAT. Your only interaction should be with students who are doing CAT. Forget the world for 2 months and enjoy the whole life. Work more and calculate less. Be mentally free to put the right information.
3. Thinking and energy matters a lot. Program your mind for success thinking about BIG Picture. Avoid discouragers - mentally and socially. Don't confront them.
4. Health is very important for taking the competition. Do jogging, cycling. Go for a walk. Better all alone. Chat with yourself and positive thinking encouraging people. Do not discourage yourself. Think like a BLACK BELT HOLDER. Discouragers achieve nothing in life but criticize everyone and everything. Positive energy is depleted by listening to them. Take light food. Wear loose clothes. Drink plenty of water, honey and lemon. Balance your diet. Eat fruit, nuts and light food.
5. Sit calm and quite. Close your eyes. Oxygenate yourself by fast breathing and deep breathing. CAT is a test of mental speed. This exercise energizes mind and increases action. Learn to chew and digest the biting words of others. They have their own priorities not CAT. People first look scornfully, then ignore, then quarrel and fight, then you win says: Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. In life we have two options: Either accept or change. Learn to accept criticism. It will generate energy for accomplishing your dreams. Cycling or walking against the wind is very difficult. Be copycat but add some more from your side.
6. Read thoroughly these 3 books:
6.1 one good book on GMAT
6.2 Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis for Verbal Ability
6.3 One year book from good publication house for GK.
Thoroughly means starting from 1st page and reading till the last page. No skipping. This alone will improve your performance by 50% to 100% in the test.
7. Don't compare yourself with others. Don't tell others about your efforts. When the results will come, all will know. Just concentrate on your studies. Help yourself. Believe in the POWER OF NOW and don't procrastinate. Be the master of your time and destiny. You daily routine is the key to your success.
8. You may also get more guidance from http://sure-tech2.blogspot.com
9. 20 minutes reading, 20 minutes writing or self-reflection what you have read and 20 minutes writing. Plan your studies in writing and follow daily routine. Match your hourly and daily achievement against the planned achievement. Try your best to beat your own records. Use voiceless music and technology to increase your mental speed.
10. Seek online help from internet. Solve as many online question papers as you can.
Check if you are improving. If not, be more intelligent.
ON THE DAY OF TEST, TOUCH FEET OF YOUR PARENTS, ELDERS AND REMEMBER YOUR AT LEAST 3 ANCESTORS WHO ARE IN HEAVEN Their blessings are most important for your success. Take print out/photocopy of this write-up and paste on a wall so that you may read daily.
BEAR IN MIND. Practice makes a man perfect. There is no magic wand for success. Practice, practice and practice.

CMAT

CMAT route to B-School

              By Rahul Sharma

In order to reduce the rigors of multiple examination process for admission in management institutions, the All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE), the statutory body and a national-level council for technical and management education in

India, will be holding first national level Common Management Admission Test(CMAT) 2012  for facilitating institutions to select suitable students for admission in all management programmes approved by AICTE for 2012-13.

CMAT is another exam along with CAT,MAT, XAT, ATMA and JMET for students aspiring to take admission in more than 4,000 management colleges across India. The examination is being widely speculated as the only exam other than CAT for getting admission in management institutions in future.

Advantage CMAT

CMAT will facilitate institutions to select suitable students for admission in all management programmes approved by AICTE for 2012-1. The list includes government colleges or institutions running management courses approved by AICET.

In the given situation, CMAT will have an edge over the examination like MAT, XAT, SNAP, ATMA etc. in terms of wider acceptance.

While MAT and ATMA are accepted largely by private institutions which have higher fees; SNAP, XAT and other individual examinations cater to only one institution or a group of institutions.

CMAT examination will make students eligible for admission to any government –run MBA programmes across the country that have a comparatively lower fee structure and better faculty-student ratio.

CMAT will also enable students to compete for larger number of seats available for admission process (4 lakh seats) and thus an opportunity for better self-assessment.

         Test Pattern

The computer-based CMAT test will comprise four sections:

a)      Quantitative Techniques and data interpretation.

b)      Logical reasoning

c)      Language Comprehension

d)      General Awareness.

Each section will have 25 questions with maximum attainable score of 100. One can move back and forth between the four sections. The duration of the test will be 180 minutes. There will be negative marking  in CMAT and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

          Acceptance of the Score

There is much talk about the acceptance of CMAT scores by the top B-Schools for the 2012-13 session. Many colleges have their compulsions in terms of their pre-released admission notification.

They are not against unified testing system or the CMAT. However, the timing of CMAT notification and delay in its announcement made the situation difficult for the colleges. To be on safer side, students should take CMAT along with other entrance examination. This way they will be eligible for admission to the colleges that will accept CMAT score this year if they score well in this exam.

GD PERSONAL INTERVIEW

CAT-GDPI

Ace the final frontier

                    By Ravinder Bhatia*

CAT 2011 for 13 IIMs and more than 150 management colleges across the country is over and now focus for all 2.05 lakh candidates is on the second phase of admission process which consists of group discussion, personal interview, case studies, extempore etc. This is the state where candidates’ confidence and spontaneity in decision making is judged.

One can anticipate some questions and prepare the ideal answers but always remember there is no ideal answer. For this stage, your replies should be in sync with your personality and the prevailing situation and you should make your answer clear and precise.

Special touch

While selecting candidates, the MBA schools always look for special qualities which will justify the MBA school as well as the courses offered by them. You should have ‘fire-in-the-belly’ and zeal to achieve something big. They look out for achievers.

MBA programmes want students who can lead people and be responsible for the management of an entire organization. Because leadership is one of the main ingredients of success, your communication skills, initiative, and motivation can become the most important aspects of the admission process which are tested through GDs.

MBA schools look for a candidate who has created value by being at the helm in group-based activities and is comfortable in this role, works well with others and operates smoothly and constructively in collaborative situation, who is not afraid of winning and seeing others lose, has good interpersonal values and morals, brings interesting attributes, experience and depth of back ground to the group, is comfortable with change and is ready to use it creatively, can write, speak and organize ideas well. In short, B-schools look for knowledge, presentation skills, team spirit and self-understanding.

Managerial attributes

GDs are conducted to test your managerial attributes like interpersonal skills, leadership, analytical and rational thinking, knowledge and personality traits. Communicating in clear and fluent manner is a must.

How to prepare

You can prepare for GD at two levels- individual and group. Focus on improving your fluency and listening skills. Read aloud from a book or newspaper, preferably in front of a mirror. You should also do some discussion with your peer group.

Another crucial part of GD is listening. A good listener can summarise discussions in a decent manner. In this way, he can get a good score by presenting a good case over an idea provided by other participants. You should do some listening exercise for the purpose of GD preparation.

Avoid the following during the group discussion or interview:-

·        Shaking legs

·        Chewing Gum

·        Playing with your tie.

·        Slouching in the chair

·        Wearing a tie without buttoning the collar. Check it standing before the mirror.

Preparing a Case Study:

When practicing for case study it is important to consider the following points:

·        Analyse information, conclude, act and recommend action.

·        Be logical and clear in your reasoning.

·        Maintain good eye contact and listen carefully to the information you are given.

Right view for interview:

The focus of a B-school interview can range from specific questions about your job to broad discussions on life.

Approach the interview as a conversation to be enjoyed and not as a question-and-answer order.

A discussion on your hobby may go on and on. This does not mean that interviewers are not serious. It just means that you are being sized up as a person and a future professional in all your dimensions.

Interviewers develop an impression of you in the first few minutes of the meeting and spend rest of the interview confirming their initial impression.

The interview panel may include students. Don’t treat them as light weights.

Before you appear for an interview, you should have a good idea about what you consider to be greatest strength. Open ended questions like “ Introduce yourself” are usually the ones that help to start the interview.

Lack of preparation is a common complaint among interviewers, an if you are prepared, you will stand out among your competitors.

Do your homework:

Do enough research about your self and the business school so that you have the right answers to some usual questions. These may include: “Why are you right for this particular business school? and “why is this particular programme right for you?”

You will need to develop and present a framework. Always remember to tp include SWOT while discussing the case study.

You don’t need to stick rigidly to a framework but use it to frame your answer. With written case studies, remember to think about your presentation – use paragraphs and bullet points to make your points clear.
