LIFE

Only a life lived for others,

is a life worthwhile.

GREAT MAN

Who is really a great man?

“There is no great man who makes everybody feel small.

The really great man is the man

who makes every man feel great.”

VANITY

Vanity is empty pride. It is futility and unsubstantiality. Thoma a Kempis said, :He himself and that maketh no account of any height of hour." These words are the quintessence of humility, when one is not arrogant of his successes nor does he complain about his misfortunes.

He insists on living creatively everyday, every minute, to give happiness to himself and to share it with others.

The reverse of this characteristic is vanity, a common trait that infects the mind and spirit of huminity. As a matter of fact, no one can escape it entirely in a lifetime.

When we have vanity, we have conceit; and in both instances we tend to falsely believe we are more than what we are, when, as a matter of fact, we know the truth - that we are less, much less than what we can be. Then, in our secret embarassment, we scratch for attention, but it ends in a fruitless effort. It's like scratching on marble. If truth be known or realised, we wind up disliking our own self, neglecting opportunities to find our 'big self' and worthwhile goals.

Once this realizations dawns on us, we feel that there is nothing vanity but defeat. Perhaps we would think twice before being vain if we realised that we are playing a depression game, a losing

game that automatically makes us a member of the opinionated club; that we become little dictators who cannot win, who cannot relax, who cannot sleep.

The cure for our ailment is simple: Let us think kindly of ourselves, but don't gloat over successes. Be a good friend to our own self and be a good friend to others. Like Thomas a Kempis said, we will be great if don't make too great an account of our honours.

The MOTIVATION #4

No one is so good
That he has no bad in him, and
No one is so bad that
He has no good in him

We human beings are a complex lot,
Many religious writings and great literary works are based upon
The constant struggle between good and evil
That goes on inside every one of us.
This struggle is as old as mankind itself.
Yet, while we recognize our own inner struggles,
We are often quick to condemn others.

Psychologists tell us that
There is no such thing as bad person;
There are only bad behaviours.
Make it a point to look for the good in yourself and in others.
Nurture the good character trait and work on the ones
That may need improvement.

Like plants in a garden, the character traits that grows
Strong and productive will be those that are fed,
Watered, and weeded regularly.

The MOTIVATION #3

Our business in life
Is not to succeed
But to continue to fail
In good spirits.

It is a psychological fact, that
we cherish most what have worked hardest to gain.
Still, the trials, disappointments and defeats
Are inevitable part; even of the most victorious lives,
We are human beings; we are limited,
You have limits, I have limits,
We are fallible. That’s reality.
But, there is a big difference
Between failing and being a failure.
One is a learning, and an opportunity to grow.
The other is an end point.

Failing is not a disgrace if you have sincerely done your best,
Don’t let not achieving your desired outcome derail you,
Endure every trial in the right spirit, consider it,
As you’ve found a way that doesn’t work,
When a man bears with composure
One heavy mischance after another, the soul shines out
Not because he does not feel them, but because
He is a man of high and heroic temper.

The MOTIVATION #2

The mind grows only
Through use,
And it atrophies*
Through idleness.

Just as the physical body becomes strong
Through regular exercise,
So does the mind require regular use
To remain strong.

Make sure that your personal development plan
Includes plenty of mental stimulation,
One of the best ways to develop your imagination
And visualization skills is through reading.
As you read, your mind translates the words into images
That help you better understand the concepts
About which you are reading.

Be a voracious reader,
Read newspapers, trade magazines,
Self-help books, and novels,
All will contribute to your store of knowledge,
And to your ability to visualize
And more effectively use your imagination.

The MOTIVATION #1

To be a great person,
Walk hand-in-hand and side-by-side
With people who are great.

It is said
“You are the average of the five people
You spend the most time with.”
Take a few minutes, check and really think about the five people;
Who are you spending your time with? And make a list,
From one to five and write them down.

Name of Person #1_____________________________
Name of Person #2_____________________________
Name of Person #3_____________________________
Name of Person #4_____________________________
Name of Person #5_____________________________

OK, Now, next to each person make an arrow,
UP IF THEY inspire you and make you a better person,
DOWN if they bring you down.

This exercise is frighteningly simple.
We all want to be with people who bring us up. Not down.

The question for you is:

Do you need to alter your Top Five?
If yes, then choose wisely, don’t fool around with those
who have messed-up their lives; instead spend time with positive,
ambitious people who have plans for their lives.
