Secret of Success

Multi directional thinking.

Multidirectional working does not make you win in life.
Concentrated thinking makes you win.

This is the reason some uneducated, illiterate are successful in this world and other well educated and considered intelligent feel the heat of the failure.

INTERVIEW - A WINNING STRATEGY

WINNING STRATEGY FOR AN INTERVIEW.

Be thyself. Know thyself.

While a versatile actor in a cinema or drama forgets for a while his own self and projects himself full in the role assigned to him, here, in the interview, you have to be yourself, nothing more, nothing less.

You have to bring out your personality in the most natural and original way.

A Civil Service topper attributed the success of his strategy to one-half reading and one-half thinking.

Think independently over what you have read, seen or heard.

Don’t indulge in excessive cramming with all and sundry lest you should-divest yourself of whatever little clarity you require to think, speak and act.

Mentally, chant the mantra, “I am the winner.”

And you are bound to win.

SQUIRREL AND LION

A small squirrel was in the service of king of the jungle – the lion. Every animal of the jungle was astonished at the swiftness and enthusiasm with which the tiny squirrel served the lion. The dedication of the squirrel also made animals around the king jealous. What was the reason behind this service was a question that troubled the minds of many animals. But they never dared to ask the squirrel this mentally bubbling question. They always feared that the tiny squirrel will tell this to the lion and the questioner will be taken to task by the king.

Many days passed by and one night when the tiny squirrel was having dinner with other squirrels confessed to its companions, “ The king has promised me 10 bagfuls of akhrot (walnuts)- the much liked fruit for we squirrels. I always dream of eating akhrots(walnut) but can’t find any around here.” The companions nodded in agreement. “This is the reason I am putting in so hard to serve the king. I don’t intend to annoy the king. King scolds and frets at me, but I keep mum thinking about the promised akhrots. I many times miss my meals. This is bad. I know but I am sure that I shall be enjoying the akhrots in return in future. All gains have pains,” the tiny squirrel appeared to be suggestive to the other ones.

Days went by and the tiny squirrel grew old. One day the king spoke to the squirrel, “You have grown old and I have decided to retire you. I wish you enjoy your post retirement life. So, from next month you will be retired from the service. I am grateful to you for serving me for all these years.” Squirrel was happy to listen these words from the king. Now the squirrel started dreaming of the day of retirement and 10 bagfuls of akhrots( walnuts) – the much liked dry fruit by squirrels. Many times, when the squirrel slept, it went on licking its mouth as if it had broken the nut and eaten the dry fruit inside it.

Finally, the day of retirement came. King invited other animals and arranged a big see-off party. The senior animals garlanded the squirrel. Squirrel was very happy. As promised, the king gave as gift of 10 bagfuls of akhrots to the squirrel and spoke a few words in appreciation of its services. Squirrel arranged for ferrying the bagfuls of akhrots to its house. It was very happy moment for the squarrel. At last, it had had what was dreamt of for so many years. Other squirrels also helped and joined it.

Now the squirrel opened one bag and wanted to break a nut but could not do so. Its teeth were not strong enough to break the nut. Despite best efforts, squirrel could not succeed and became morose. Young squirrels were breaking, eating and enjoying the akhrots quickly The long wait for years for the promised akhrots was a source of happiness for a while. The old squirrel became sad and lay on the bed without eating a single akhrot.

MORAL: DON’T WAIT FOR RETIREMENT TO ENJOY LIFE.

MANAGING BODY LANGUAGE

YES, YOU CAN – Use Body Language In Right Way And Achieve Success

Dear Friend,

Everybody in this world communicates his/her feelings to somebody or many persons every day. And the means adopted to communicate is usually talking. In other words, talking is the most personal, direct and forceful way in which one communicates. The way one talks has the greatest impact on how other people interact with one. That is why you should always bear in mind that it is a skill and should not be taken as granted. It should be fully understood with all its implications, as it plays an invaluable role in expressing your ideas and feelings. Talking, however, involves the following elements: how to communicate with people using body language; what are the techniques for expressing yourself in the best way; how to put forward the points you think necessary; what are the techniques for winning arguments. Most of what people understand when you talk is what they are told by your voice tone, expression and body language.

Remember, your non-verbal language may be communicating more clearly. In fact, as experts believe, of the three elements that comprise face-to-face communication – words, tone of voice and body language – words can be responsible for very little of meaning i.e. up to only seven percent, whereas most of the job is done by tone of voice and body language accounting for meaning up to thirty-eight and fifty five percent, respectively. It clearly means that if you want to convey your ideas, negative or win arguments, you must how to communicate with your eyes, and be careful about the signals you are sending out to the persons being spoken to.

Non-verbal communication or body language includes your facial expression, gesture, tone of voice, speed of speech, how you hold your body i.e. the way you seat yourself and where you position yourself in relation to others. You have to remember very well that unnatural eye contact and confrontational body positions send out wrong and very disturbing messages. Similarly, if somebody who does not meet your eyes while speaking is sending a strong and clear signal that what he/she is saying is quite different from what he/she actually feels. You should be aware of the fact that like verbal language, body language is also affected by emotions and may come out all wrong. You should, however, not misunderstand anyone who is unable to meet your eyes while speaking. You should never think that he/she is shy, embarrassed, or even nervous about your reaction to what he/she is telling you.

The body language you use while communicating depends upon on many traits. If you are sitting forward or leaning towards the speaker, it goes in your favour. If you are not seated, you should always stand upright to have a positive impact the speaker. Besides, you should keep your eyes wide open in order to look more expressive and confident. Your hand gestures should remain animated to carry on your message in the right way. If you place your hands on your hips instead of folding them across your chest, it will have a strong positive impact. Besides, if you look at your watch frequently, it has a very negative impact . Looking downwards and avoiding eye contact are also negative traits. Besides, your emotions should also be at your command. Never let them interfere with your ability.

You should always communicate your right ideas and feeling by exercising control over emotions. If you do not let your emotions interfere with your ability, nothing can prevent you from achieving success.

Wishing you a successful march to enviable victory.

BIHAR CM

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU SIR. You are going to be the Chief Minister of Bihar fir the 2nd Term. I wish you to be the Chief Minister for the 3rd term and Bihar will be a new state of my India.

Mastering Life

How to Become a Master of Life

Do you sometimes feel stressed and fed-up with life? Want to be happy? Joyful? Well I wonder if joy really is the state to aim for... Is it even possible?

When you think about it, intense happiness and joy are, by their nature, short lived. Note the use of the words 'by their nature.' This implies that you cannot artificially sustain joy, say by maintaining or increasing the stimulus which produced it.

You know those Amazonian insect-eating plants? Once an insect has triggered the plant to close, no amount of further stimulation will have the slightest effect for several hours. You can put that plant on a lead and take it for a walk through a swarm of flies, and its lips will remain stubbornly sealed.

Our 'joy' mechanism is similar.

Once triggered, it activates, and then a certain time period must elapse before it can be triggered again. It is has filled its purpose; I will explain what that is in a moment.

The same is true of intense happiness. We feel this fleeting, wonderfully positive response when one of our needs starts to be met.

Carefully note those last words.

I did not say 'when one of our needs is fully met.' Joy or intense happiness is our reward to ourselves for taking good care of the organism, just as pain is the opposite.

Our Needs

We have many needs, as I am sure you know.

First in the hierarchy come our physical needs (food, water, warmth, safety, shelter, sex, touch etc...). Many of these are essential for our physical survival and so these become pressing if not met. We feel intense and desperate pain (thirst, hunger, cold) and an intense joy at the first sip of water, morsel of food or warmth of the blanket thrown around our shoulders. But this quickly wears off because that need has now been satisfied. More (or prolonged) warmth, more food or more water bring diminishing returns in happiness.

Soon we pass into boredom and indifference about those needs. We decline the third helping of swan's breast and wearily wave away the fifth overflowing goblet of mead and... isn't it getting a little warm in here? Can somebody please stop throwing peasants onto the fire...

Eventually, other needs come to the surface - the need to be cool, the need to rest and digest. Whereas before, the cold wind caused the most intense agony and you longed for a good crackling fire to warm your bottom against, now the cold breeze from the open window feels good against your face.

You feel a momentary flash of joy...

How It All Began

In mankind's distant past, our physical needs were mostly all we took care of. Food, water, shelter, sex, warmth - that was what it was all about.

Fast forward one million years and many of us have cracked the 'physical needs' thing. Douglas Adams described the three stages of man's evolution as "How shall we eat?" "What shall we eat?" and "Where shall we do lunch?" Well, we're at the 'doing lunch' stage now, at least in the Western world. For the main part we are all more than adequately fed, watered and housed. Actually, this is a gross understatement - we luxuriate in a massive surplus of these things.

But we are far more than a collection of physical needs. We also have a whole range of intellectual and emotional needs. We also have 'spiritual' needs in the sense of wanting answers to "what's it all about?" questions and wanting to make sense of our life as a whole and attain meaning.

Let's call these our ‘higher' needs.

Higher Needs

Examples of 'higher level' needs include our need for love, meaning, contribution, efficacy, beauty, order, companionship, excitement, respect, authenticity, choice, trust, harmony -- the list is a very long one (at least two dozen needs).

Which Are More Important?

The temptation here is to class these 'higher level' needs as less important than the lower level. In just one way, they are.

Non-fulfilment of lower level needs often leads to death - the actual extinction of the organism. Not filling higher level needs rarely has this effect. But there, the difference ends.

The purpose of life is not brute survival at any cost. The purpose is to survive as a man or woman, with all that this implies. To both surive and to thrive. Thriving requires that your higher level needs are also met. If they are not met, the result will be misery, defeat, low self esteem and low energy.

If too many of your needs are not met for a long period, the result will be depression in all of its guises and possibly even psychosis or suicide. Yes, lack of water will kill the organism called 'man' in a few days; but solitary confinement will kill a man (not the organism but his spirit) in a few months.

Starvation will kill a woman in two weeks; but total lack of love, warmth or affection will kill a woman (not the organism but her spirit) in a few short years.
I do not mean to imply that men and women have a different set of needs. They do not. All humans share an identical set of needs.
The Cyclical Nature of Needs

Our higher level needs are also cyclical. One example should suffice.

We have a need for companionship - we are social creatures by nature. This implies that our need for companionship is not optional. If we do not fill this need we start to feel pain. So imagine now being in solitary confinement (enforced or accidental).

After two or three days you feel discomfort. As the days of solitude accrue, you feel more intense pain - the pain of deep loneliness and the strong desire to see another human face or hear a voice.

If this continues indefinitely, the result is depression and even suicide. Can you possibly imagine that you might say: "Leave me alone! I want to be by myself! I need my space!"? No, this seems inconceivable. But let us see...

Suppose after months of confinement, you receive a visitor. What intense joy! What rapture! You cling on to the person, greedily devouring every line and wrinkle in their face; sucking up their words like a parched traveler in a desert.

Too Much of a Good Thing?

Now I want you to imagine a second visitor and a third - all friends and much loved family. Such happiness! You greet them all warmly. Now a fourth and a fifth; soon fifty well-wishers and friends are crowded into your room.

Hours pass, you start to feel weary. So many people, so much talk. You start to long for some peace and quiet. But your guests have no intention of going. They stay and stay - for hours, then days. They crowd your bedroom whist you sleep, lovingly watching over you. They crowd your living room whilst you are awake, cuddling you, kissing you, touching you - saying nice things.

Gradually it becomes unbearable. You long for solitude. Your need for companionship has been sated and your need for space and quiet is now urgent. You scream out in pain: "Please! Will you all just GO AWAY! I want to be alone! I need space!"

To dark mutterings of “Well! Of all the ungrateful...” they stalk off into the night, leaving you with that which you most need at present... solitude.

And so it goes on, round and round. You could call this a 'cycle of needs.'

I like to imagine this as one of the those Hi Fi volume meters made up of moving illuminated bars (like a bar chart).

Each bar represents a need, the current level of the bar indicating the intensity of that need at any one moment. They never stand still. They dance up and down as each need is either met, or comes to the foreground demanding to be met.

The further below the mid line a bar drops, the more pain you feel. This triggers you into action to get that need met and hopefully the bar comes up to midway - the object is to keep it there.

If it goes above midway, you have overfilled that need (too much food, too much warmth, too much companionship); this also causes pain and triggers you to further action.

[Aside: Can you have too much of seemingly positive things like love or harmony? Sure you can! Imagine a cloying, overbearing lover who will not leave your side for one second and who strums lutes below your lighted window each night - or a 100% harmonious world with never an argument, never a disagreement, everything always being perfect.]

You could say that everything you do in life is a strategy for keeping those bars all in a line, in the middle. Often our strategies are misguided and even counterproductive, but still the intention is to fill a need.
No Final Result

Of course this is a dynamic thing, like juggling. It is never static.

There is never a time - not once in your entire life - where you can sit back and admire your straight line of bars, secure in the knowledge that they will remain that way for longer than a few moments.

A juggler can never relax her concentration and have the balls remain in a perfect arc above her head. And here's the really important bit: even when those bars are in a line, it does not produce joy or ecstatic happiness. These, as we have seen, are our brief reward for starting to fill an urgent, chronic need.

So what do you think is the emotion corresponding to a full set of well-filled needs?
Contentment.

Now we are getting closer to a sustainable and desirable state to aim for.

Everyone thinks they want to be blissfully happy, (in this particular article I am using this word in the sense of intense happiness bordering on joy.) In fact, this is unsustainable by any means - just as the fly trap cannot munch its way through an endless queue of suicidal bluebottles. It is not in the nature of the plant to do this. It is not in our nature to feel constant joy.

This is such an important point that I want you to be very clear about it. As an organism, it is not the case that our purpose is to move towards a state of permanent intense happiness (joy), any more than the juggler aims to attain a perfect frozen arc of equally-spaced balls above her head so that she might relax, arms folded.

So what is our purpose?

It is to maintain a state of dynamic equilibrium - neither too hot, nor too cold; neither too tired, nor over-rested; neither starving, nor bloated.

To achieve this, evolution has provided us with two important feelings: pain and pleasure. Pain is the stick, goading us away from danger, chronic lack, or massive excess. Pleasure is the carrot, enticing us to act in a way that gets it just right - perfectly balanced. Both have the purpose of getting us to act - to do something to restore equilibrium.

Once equilibrium has been achieved, the feeling is not one of intense, prolonged happiness (that is our reward for starting to fill a much neglected need.) The result is equilibrium for the organism and we experience this as a quality of contentment.

Become a Master Juggler of Life

If we become a master juggler of life and get the hang of keeping those tricky bars all in a row, or balls in the air, our reward is deep and lasting contentment.

Since words have many meanings, let me be a little more specific about this state. You feel that all is right with your world (which, of course, it is). You feel calm, in flow, certain, in focus, open, poised, sensitive and clear.

Other people will feel a very special quality about you and want to be close to it - they crave it too, just as every human being does. Life seems easy for you. You wonder why on earth you struggled and strained for so many years, wracked by guilt, angst, pain and unhappiness.

The reason is that you were not, at that point, a master of life.

To push the juggler analogy a teensy bit further; top jugglers like Brad Byers spend years learning exactly how to keep all of those balls or clubs flying in an arc above his head. I imagine that at times it seemed impossible; he felt like giving up. He was probably often frustrated, angry and despairing about ever being able to do such a difficult thing. But having mastered it, the process now is almost effortless for him. When juggling, he is in a 'flow' state - not struggling, sweating and striving to maintain the arc, but calm, certain, almost in a meditative state.

Happiness Is Not Natural

Is contentment the 'natural' human state?

Well, that depends on what you mean by 'natural.' Our default condition is not one of contentment.

It is entirely incorrect to say that if you do nothing, let go or drop out then you will default to a 'natural' state of contentment. The exact opposite is true, in fact.
If you seek contentment you are required to engage in a constant, relentless struggle with nature and reality (required by your essential nature, that is).

Disengaging with this struggle, as you might expect, rapidly produces discontentment closely followed by unhappiness, pain and then death. All the balls come tumbling to the ground and the audience holds it breath, wondering if this is a joke or whether they are witnessing a disaster.

Books, courses and religions which claim that man's 'natural' state is one of happiness are just plain wrong - as wrong as a book on juggling which claims that the balls 'naturally' want to be in a neat arc and that your task as a juggler is to 'get in touch' with this natural state and 'release' the balls to 'do their own thing'...

Mankind's 'natural' state is one of constant struggle to maintain equilibrium. His reward for this, if he masters it, is contentment.

Does all this talk about 'constant struggle' put you off? Perhaps you are thinking that happiness and even contentment are now well out of your reach?

Not so.

Just because you are engaged in a lifelong 'dance' with nature, does not mean that it is arduous, deeply painful and harsh - although it can be these things if you get it wrong. The truth is that it is possible to be content because our needs are not that difficult to meet, particularly these days. Not easy, but not that hard either.
The reason we feel such discontent, pain, unhappiness and angst is mainly because of false information leading to erroneous and completely incorrect strategies for filling our needs.
How to Become A Master of Life
I want to summarise the important things I have been explaining to you:

1. You have many needs, both 'lower level' (e.g. food) and 'higher level' (e.g. love).

2. Your needs are the 'voice' of the organism called a 'human being' telling you what it needs for survival as a human (not survival at any level, e.g. as a cringing, naked half-starved beast.)

3. Your needs are never filled, finally, for all time. They are cyclical. Your two dozen (or so) needs cycle round and around. At any one moment, several are urgently screaming at you, a few are muttering for attention and others are satisfied - for now.

4. When a need is not filled, you feel discomfort and then pain. This is the human organism's method of alerting the higher part of your mind (the strategy part) to come up with some plans, pronto, for filling that need.

5. If a need has been unfilled for a long time, when you attend to it you feel a burst of an emotion we call 'joy.' This is your instant reward for getting started. It is not a sustainable feeling.

6. Gradually, as you master how to juggle your needs and respond to them in a timely fashion, your reward is a feeling we call 'contentment.'

7. The trick is to become a 'master of life' - a master juggler. This is not a 'natural' state. You need to work at it and practice it. You also need an instructor. (If you have ever tried your hand at juggling, you will know it is impossible to learn, by yourself, from first principles. But if someone shows you the step-by-step method, then anyone can learn to juggle three balls in around five hours. Five balls? Come back in five years!)

In case you have not yet realised this fact, it is going to take time for you to become a ‘master of life'.

A good time to start is... now.

ACTIVE LISTENING - YES, YOU CAN

Talk Low, Talk Slow and Do Not Say Too Much

Dear Friend,

You must have observed that the two words "LISTEN" and "SILENT" are made of the same six letters. This makes think of the powe of active listening. It means that active listening is a must for talking in the real sense.

You should never think that by merely talking to somebody you can make yourself understand. In fact, there is a big difference between talking and making yourself understood. They are alone best talkers who know the value of listening. If you analyse closely and carefullly, you will find that the best talkers use the value of listening as a tool to make their own arguments more compelling; as tool for making their audience more receptive. In other words, great communication is not about making yourself sound good; it is about making your message clear. Now, the question arises- How should you get the message across? The answer is very simple- use body language; be careful while using words and use them powerfully; remember that you have to act as a regulator to bring the talk to a logical conclusion, to convince the person who is talking to you.

As far as using body language is concerned, you have to learn how to communicate with your eyes. Besides, you have to be aware of meaning of non-verbal signals which include gestures too. If you have the ability to check physical clues for underlying emotions, your job becomes easier. If there are any barriers to communication, you have to work keenly to remove them. Next to using body language comes use of words in a powerful manner. A powerful use of words consists in choosing your words with care and it can be possible only when you avoid jargons.
Jargons always complicate the expression of ideas clear and by using simple language, you can avoid misundertstanding. Use your words in such a way that they can appeal to all the five senses. Your feelings should always be intense, because it is your feelings that reinforce your point.

You have to always bear in mind what you are talking for. Be very clear about the4 purpose of negotiation. Then comes your situation, your needs and your intersts. Not that you can negotiate without having the basic knowledge about negotiation techniques. While negotiating something, you should use negotiation techniques.

Now comes the most important part of the whold exercise. You have to take decision with regard to what you actually want to achieve after winning the argument. You have to get sure that your argument is well planned and it does not make any mention of the points which are vague and misleading. You should also bear in mind that simple and clear points, and lucid language help you carry on your argument to a logical conclusion and convince others. You can convince an individual only if your argument is logical. The logical process can be mastered through practice.

Never forge that talking is the most personal, direct and forceful way in which you communicate your thoughts and feelings everyday. The way you talk has the greatest impact on how other people interact with you. That is why you should always remember that it is a skill. Not everybody in this world can talk effectively. Talking should neither be taken for granted nor misunderstood, Talk in in the proper way to succeed. Talking is a skill which should be cultivated and improved on very sincerely and carefully. Talk low, talk slow and do not say too much. Too much talk will include errors.

Wishing you all the best for success.

Abstract

Teaching is a holistic profession like any other profession. The teacher’s role like most of the other professional roles has been defined by the society in which he/she works. Different social groups have different professions and these professions change with the passage of time. The teacher or “guru” in ancient Indian society was next only to God and one’s parents. But that is not the case today. The teacher’s role in India today is not the same that of Western Countries or cultures. Teachers’ education programme aims at preparing the teachers for the school level teaching institutions. With the changing world, expectations from the teacher are also being changed by the society. Therefore, teacher is required to have not only academic and professional competence of high order but also earnest responsibility and commitment to strive constantly to raise students’ learning, capability, achievement and make them autonomous, self-reliant and self-actualizing persons. Only then he will be able to face the changes and challenges of his professional career. This paper focuses on the meaning of professionalism, need and strategies for the professionalism of teachers’ education.

Introduction

Only then, he will be able to face the changes and challenges of his professional career.

Is teaching professional today?

• So far as India is concerned, teaching is not professional today.
However, in England, U.S.A and in other countries also, professional confidence and autonomy which is found in the practice of law and medicine is not be seen in teaching. The reasons are that in comparison to other professions, teachers’ activities are less exact and narrow. (judge, 1980). Nobody can definitely assert that the work of teaching can be done effectively by the teacher. Today, teaching is done and knowledge is given through other agencies. How can professionalization come in teaching under these circumstances? As in the case of a doctor and a lawyer, there is no fixed territories.

• It may be taken for granted that teacher is a person who is paid to instruct according to some programme- pupil’s choice or his contemporaries that follow the programme given by the institute. This situation is against professionalization. In India, this is the existing situation. Hence, today teaching is not professional.

• There is a belief in society and among teachers that teaching is an art and it is not science. There is a mentality that successful teaching is a practical skill and such skill does not come through the study of principles of education.

• The status of teachers is low. The teacher does not enjoy that prestige, which a doctor, a lawyer, an industrialist or an engineer enjoys. Certain prejudice is prevailing in the society that the teachers are the idealistic, impractical and not capable of fighting reality. They have no voice in the society.

• Teachers are under-paid as compared to other professions.

• The standard of entering into the profession is not so high. Little scientific knowledge is available in the teaching profession because pedagogy is in its early stage still.

• Teachers are not united. They are scattered and are not grouped. They are divided as primary, secondary, higher secondary and college teachers. Teachers’ unions are no so effective and powerful.

• Teaching is done in the midst of pressures and conflicts, which are social, economic and political.

• There is a restriction on the individual freedom of teachers and our society is very critical about their manners, habits, clothes or social interaction as well as relations.

For above all stated reasons, teaching cannot be said to be a full fledged profession.

PROFESSIONALISM IN TEACHERS’ EDUCATION\

Dr, A.G.Kachhia
Dr. B.I.Prajapati

The need of professionalization o f teachers’ education.

The present age is the age of professionalization. Different occupations like law, medicine etc. are considered as profession today. The need for professionalization has become so acute today that every occupation including teaching is considered to be taken a profession because it has to go in time with modernization, which has entered in every field of life. More over, it has a social responsibility, such as preparation of responsible future citizens.

Today, teaching is no more than simply an occupation aimed at making money for livelihood but it is social service for the national development.
And that is why today there is a need for professionalization in teaching. Thus its social responsibility and function is very crucial. The teachers themselves remain unclear about whether they do or do not belong to a profession (Judge, 1980). The reason of this is that teachers have never enjoyed that degree of professional confidence and autonomy which is found in the practice of medicine and law.

A teacher has to play an important role in the preparation of individuals who are patriotic, committed, responsible and conscious of what they are doing. This account for the need of professionalization in teaching.

A number of recent U.S. federal state and foundations report have focused on the quality of public education. In U.S.A also crises are found in teaching. Children are not learning their basics and better instructions are needed to maintain the spiritual, cultural and economic climate of the nation. (Popkewitz, 1994). So, the need for the professionalization of teach is found to be essential. According to him, there is a concern for providing teacher with more autonomy, privilege and status. This is possible only if professionalization takes place in teaching. Taken as profession, teaching will require modernization as well as perfection. In short, professionalization in teaching is the prime necessity of the day.

Strategies for the professionalization of teachers’ education

According to Joshi & Bhogayata (1999) the criteria for professionalization are the following:-
1. When the occupation is full time, it is a profession. And it is a main source of income for the practitioner of profession.
2. The choice of an occupation is a strong inspiration of that profession and that person committed to the profession for the whole of life.
3. Such a professional has acquired special knowledge and skill through teaching and thinking and raw material is acquired through science and study.
4. A professional draws the conclusion for the welfare of his client on the basis of universal law.
5. The profession chosen by him is aimed at the service of people and he uses his knowledge for
6. The work of the professional is aimed at satisfying the objective requirement of his client. He totally ignores his personal likes and dislikes.
7. The client and professional have faith in each other. The professional enjoys autonomy. He knows more than his client and wishes welfare of his client and his life.
8. Professionals form their unions and these unions control the admission and continuation of that profession and the union fixes the standard for the test in training and teaching of the profession.
9. The position and capacity of the professional in his field is very high.
10. A person in his profession can not attract client or customers through advertisement.

When majority of this ten criteria are applicable to a particular occupation, that occupation is called profession. Historically, the occupation of doctors and lawyers are oldest professions. We can identify several important strategies to make teaching a profession on the basis of above criteria.

A teacher has an important role to play in the society. Teacher builds up a strong, durable and ideal society. His role is important in the creation of nation. In order to achieve this goal, teacher’s education must be made professional.

HOW CAN IT BE ACHIEVED?

Teaching should not be a part time activity. If should be a full time job. However, it should be the main source of income for the professional. A teacher could be permanently committed to his work. Those who have chosen teaching as a profession must acquire necessary knowledge and skill. The professionals work for the welfare of his client without any person gain. He/She enjoys full autonomy in his/her profession.

For the professionalization in teachers’ occupation, the persistent study, research, and investigation are essential. Teacher as researcher can be a professional (Ganihar & Nilavar 1999). The client satisfaction and good reward can make teaching professional.

According to Schnook(1987), teaching can achieve the status of a profession through reflective practice (i.e. reflection in and on practice). So, teaching must become reflective, intellectual activity, a very high level of thinking ability, a very creative and imaginative faculty, a proactive reasoning ability and superior communication can make teacher’s occupation more professional. (Ghanchi, 2000)

KABIR BADDHI

My visit to Bharuch (Gujrat) India is really exciting and new experience with new people of my country. I have been invited by Narayan Vidhyalaya, Bharuch principal Dr. Bhagu Bhai Prajapati who was the co-recipient of International Gold Star Award at Bangkok (Thailand) on 28th May,2010. I am here to give talks and trainings on BRAIN POWER TECHNOLOGY to 991 students about 600 parents and 44 teachers. Students of +1and +2, 5th, 6th and 7th have been given the seminar.I am the Chief Guest and motivational trainer and speaker to address all these audience.

Yesterday, we swam in Narmada river. We were 4 people- me, Dr. Bhagu Bhai, Mr. Gariyar a retired principal (B.Sc.M.A, M.Ed) Narayan Vidhalaya, Bharuch and my son Ankush aged 17 student of +2 - boarded the boat and crossed the river Narmada. It was an experience par expression. The thrill and experience can only be felt not told in words. The waves of the river were coming from the ocean and the co-passengers were saying that the ocean is Arabian sea that is experiendcing tide. The waves going in opposite direction are due to this experience by the sea.

Having crossed the river Narmada, we reached Kabir Badh. The Badh (Banyan tree) was a huge tree. We were asked a question. Tell the original root of Badh or mother tree. We tried our best but could not find. All the roots and trees were appearing to be original. That question was very big to answser. Photographs, sitting on the branches and live logs, were taken. We enjoyed the swimming in the river Narmada. Narmada is said to be holy river and is known as the life line of Gujarat.

On the way back, we visited Neel Kantheshwar Mahadev Temple on the Narmada river, Ashram of Ma Anand Mai. Sardar Sarovar Narmada DAM that gives electricity to Gujarat is going to be visited by all of us. We are going to visit the dam in a vehicle. I was much interested to visit this dam. Why? In 1980 I appeared for IAS exam and at that time the dam was perhaps under constrction and we the students used to discuss a lot about this dam. Today the dream is going to be filled. I am posting this while enjoying the ride in the vehicle as we are going to see Narmada Dam. The dam is about 150 km from Bharuch. Bharuch is about 50 km away from Vadodara- one of the biggest cities of Gujarat.

Kidney Stone Remedy

This posting is based on the talk I just heard on TV program "Pehla Sukh Nirogi Kaya".
An Ayurvedic and Unani Hakim Tilak Raj who is having a hospital at Jalandhar was giving very useful tips for managing and getting the kidney stone cured without operation.

He suggested:
1. Get your stone diagnosed. Don't start any medicine without diagnosis.
2. For immediate relief (till you go to a doctor) from acute pain, pain killer was advised.
3. Foods to avoid: Tomato, Spinach
4. Take water and soda water in plenty so that urination may be caused. It will give relief.
5. Ayurved and Unani medicine can cure the kidney stone fully whatever be the size, he asserted.
6. Only light exercise useful. Hard exercise strictly forbidden.
These are just suggestions for your awareness. Consult your doctor if faced with this problem. No need to panic unnecessarily.

HAVE HEALTH, WEALTH AND HAPPINESS

Dear Friend,

He, who has health, has hope. And he, who has hope, has everything. Every human being is the author of his own health or disease. It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. Health is a state of complete physical, mental and emotional well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. So, if a person is not healthy, then he or she will find it very difficult to enjoy life. A lot many people spoil their health for gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health.

Good health is the consequence of good energy levels. Energy has three pre-dominant levels a) Physical b) Mental and c) Emotional. Physical energy can be gained by eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. A balanced nutritious dies must contain carbohyderate, protien, fat, vitamins, mineral salts and fibre. It must contain these things in correct proportions. Next to the chart comes regular exercise. Proper exercise benefits every part of the body including the mind. Walking, deep-breathing and meditation are three very productive exercises for your well-being.

Mental energy comes from three significat sources a) Thinking b) Reasoning and c) Solving of Problems. You must develop honest and good thoughts. A good thinker is an asset to the society. And learn to take complete control of your thoughts and mental processes. To gain mental strength and vitality, cultivate the quality of reasoning well and with conviction. As long as there is life, there will be problems. The art lies in your approach to problems. Do not make hotchpotch of all the issues. Solve problems one by one at a time. Similarly make plansin such a way that you can execute them on a daily basis. Remember, to prioritise your time and do the most important things first.

The third type is emotional energy coming from enthusiasm, motivation and resilience. Emotional energy is the master of all energies. Emotions can be a useful and powerful tool to handle different situations in life. This energy depends on how much zeal, drive and toughness you have. Enthusiasm comes from optimism. Optimism is a magnet. It attracts people and prosperity to you. Positive thoughts are powerful constructive thoughts. They give energy to both mind and body. If we have positive thoughts it is sure that we will succeed. They make us more joyful and happy. Using them on all occasions will make us live a better life than ever and help us to build a better social, cultural and work relationship. All is Well is not just catch-phrase popularised by the movie 3 Idiots but a generator of positivism. These three magical words will not heal our sores or soothe our sorrows, but the essence within them will provide us the courage to do so.

The next component, motivation, results from our passion and commitment. Passion is an attitude and can be developed. Vhoose the career that is perfect for you, one that inspires you and leads you to perform better, work harder, live more happily. Such a career will make you passionate about your work. If you are passionate, you will inevitably be committed to your task at hand.
Motivation is a combination of will power, goals, ability to continue attaining the highest level of success.
Last but not least, you need to develop resilience. Resilience is the flexibility in response to changing situational demands, and the ability to bounce back from negative emotional experiences. Resilient individuals experience positive emotions even in the midst of stressful events, which explains their ability to rebound successfully despite diversity.
To wish you to be well is a part of becoming well. A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools. Health is first muse, it gives us the required motivation and energy to work. In health, there is freedom. Health is the first of all liberties. It is the greatest possession a person can accumulate.
Helping you to gain healh, wealth and happiness.

BE YOUR BEST SELF

Be your best self

by I.M.Soni
You have been troubled by infereiority feelings which are often based on memories or on remarks made by others.
Your feelings lead to self-concepts that are flagrantly wrong, but as long as you believe in them, you are inluenced by them.
Threrefore, it is important for you for to keep telling yourself that you are a much better individual than you are made to believe by envious people.
If you accept this as a fact, it will begin to influence your life because what you do with your self life depends on your own self-concept.
Your self-concept makes real things happen to you. You may say, "I can do this" and "I can't do that" simply because of remarks that other have made about you.
You underestimate your own abilities. Your inherent abilities are much greater than those you actually use. No one ever gives his best, is not a joke. Henry Ford once said, "Everyone can do more than he thinks he can."
No matter what your abilities are, they can be developed only if you choose to develop them. It is up to you.
According to Prescott Lecky, every human being strives to be a consistentent whole. He rejects what he thinks contradicts his self-image. Sometimes, he rejects traits that would be greatly to his advantage, because in a thoughtless moment, someone has told him that he was very dull.
If he accepts this, it becomes part of his mental picture of himself, and from that time he behaves accordingly.
A poor speller, for example, can be turned into a good one by changing his idea about his ability. When he changed his idea about his opinion of himself, a high school student, who previously misspelled 55 words out of 100 and had failed in most of his school subjects, became one of the best spellers in his school and got a general average of 90. He overcame his ,"disability" and became proficient.
Self-concept may be compared to building houses. If a man, in a fit of alcoholism, builds up an image of himself that has no basis in reality, he's building a mental house of straw.
A daydream that has no follow-up can be blown away as easility as a house of straw.
You can build your mental house out of sticks, and it can also be blown down. If you build your self-concept on casual remarks made others, you are building it out of sticks.
If you build your mental house out of bricks, who can knowck it down? Bricks that build your self-concept show what you can do and achieve.
If you have personal experience in succeeding at something, small or big, you can build a house of your self-esteem on what you have done. Forget the failures you have met with.
Build your life and career on what you have already done successfully. Success breeds success.
Nietzche says, "Become what thou art!" He knew that if we only became as great as we really are we would be better than we dream.
You have potentialities that you have never realised. The first step in changing your life is to believe that you can change. Here are some suggestions.
Accept yourself. In a study of group of college students, it was found that those who were mentally healthiest accepted themselves with all their faults as naturally.
Dont tear yourself apart because you do not think you are worthy.
You should try to be at your best.
Believe in yourself. You have some talent. If you do not know what your talent is, that does not mean that you do not possess one.
Keep seeking till you find what your talent is.
Think of how to make yourself better.
If you spend too much time wondering whether or not you are good, you won't be.
Keep your hands and your mind occupied.A man is nothing if not a worker.
Keep recreational activities in your life.
Always have an activity that will be fun for the sake of it.
Make others comfortable and at ease.
When you meet someone for the first time, concentrate on trying to make him feel at ease.
That will keep you from feeling self-conscious.
If you cocentrate on the other person, you are not self-centred.
Do something about your negatives. If you have some worries you cannot do anything, try to be fair about them. Look for their good points.
Believe in some power higher and greater than yourself.
Bury the past. Yesterday was a dream, tomorrow may never come. Use this fragment of time, as though it were your last day.
Work for your future. The beauty of the future is that it comes one day. And anybody can handle one day positively and creatively.

FIGHT OR FLIGHT

The person who has never failed in life is the person who has never attempted any act in life.

Amitabh Bachchan - the great legend of Indian Cinema when went to face the interview by an advertisement agency faced this fact. The interviewer retorted, "Your voice resembles with beast of burden. You can never be success in life." Amitabh Bachchan spoke nothing but determined internally "I will become a great actor and my voice will be my strength." Rest is the reality you all know.

Had Amitabh Bachchan bogged down at that time, he would have gone to seclusion and nobo0dy would have bothered about him. But he rose and fought and won the battle of failure in a befitting manner.

Whenever anyone faces failure in exam, competition, career or life first thought comes to mind is quitting. A person never fails until he/she quits. Brave rise and fight and win laurels for themselves and for their family and friends, nears and dears. Scociety salutes them. Success salutes them.

There is nothing between success and failure except right and adequate effort.

Passing an exam needs studying hard. One hour study should be spread like:

-20 minutes reading

-20 minutes closing eyes reflecting upon what has been read.

-20 minutes - writing for knowing what has been read is right and worh or not.

Generally, we tell to others more than doing. George Bernard Shaw - the great writer- says, " When we tell about our plans to others, they comment, criticise and complement. But when we achieve our goals, they appreciate and believe." So, don't tell others until you achieve.

Commonly diagnosed reasons for failure in exams are:

- Wrong daily routine

-Not attending the class for one reason or another.

- Excessive socialisation

- Excessive friendship and wasting of time in activities other than studies.

Improving upon these habits forces success to salute the aspirant.

Wishing you a grand success - Prof P.K.Keshap
