Two Ways of Living

Rama an embodiment of simplicity, sacrifice and humility as  self- ideal icon:

1. The next day Lord Rama was to be the king of Ayodhya after his official declaration in the presence of courtiers. All were celebrating this night and emotions were upbeat.

2. Everybody was happy.

3. Rama did not find his father King Dashratha in the palace and kept searching for him.

4. He went to the palace to his mother (step) Kakkai. He found that there was no light, It was all dark.

5. When lamp was lighted, he saw his father with his head down and his mother Kakkai sitting by his side.

6. He asked his father "what is the matter?" Father did not reply but Kakkai - the embodiment of "selfishness" replied: Your father had promised a promise when I saved his life from a lion when we went for hunting. Today, I asked him to fulfill the promise. "What was the promise? dear respected mother and how can it be fulfilled?.

7. Kakkai told that I saved the life of your father from a lion and he promised that he will reward me for that "bravery." Today I asked him to fulfill that promise. I demanded that the kingdom of Ayodhya be given to my son Bharat and Rama be exiled for 14 years.

8. Rama smiled and said: Such a small thing honourable father. I will go to exile with my wife tomorrow and my cousin brother Bharata be made the king of Ayodhya.

9. Next day, instead of becoming the king, Rama went to exile smilingly. But when Bharata came back from his maternal-uncle's home, he asked his mother who suggested this foolish proposal. Mother said: Our servant Manthra did. It infuriated Bharata and he said a Queen seeking counselling from a mopper of the palace. At least, mother you should have thought before declaring exile to my dear brother. I will not sit on the throne.

10. He went to persuade his brother Rama to come back and sit on the throne and be the King. But Lord Rama did not agree and his Chappals known as Khadwan were given that Bharata placed on the throne of Ayodhya and he served the kingdom for 14 years.

11. STRUGGLE: When Rama went to exile, he was known as son of Dashrath but when he came back from exile having won the victory over Ravana, he was known as "Maryada Purshottam" means a man who never crossed the limits of "Maryada" in life.

Lessons for personality

Ramayana gives many lessons. Some are :
1) Selfish thinking destroys the life of others including family members.
2) Self-discipline is more important for enjoying happy and hilarious life.
3) Remain detached in this world of attachment.
4) For detached people, exile and kingdom is same. No attachment.
5) Good life is one where all are happy. Elders, youngsters, kids and others in the society. Ram Rajya is that form of living.
