HOW CAN I LEARN

SPIRITUAL MESSAGE

To commit mistakes is the only way to learn.

To move according to one's own understanding is the only way to grow.

If you are looking at somebody else to dictate to you,

you will never know what life is.

It has to be lived, and you have to follow your own small light.

says Osho, the Zen Master

COMMONWEALTH GAMES

EMOTIONAL APPEAL
Like any proud citizen, I am filled with pride that our great country is hosting the Commonwealth Games, 2010 which are symbolic of our national honour.
India is a country of immensely constructive, progressive & cultured people with a rich heritage and our recent economic growth has drawn worldwide admiration. As such, the whole world today looks upon us with respect and hope.
The recent continuous and negative media coverage of Delhi Commonwealth Games, 2010 has resulted in absolute negativity among our people and the whold world talking adversely about our country.
Due to this continous and extensively negative coverage, we are creating a withdrawal feeling in thousands of organizers, 23000 volunteers, who are feeling totally demoralized and dejected. This would totally mar the successful conduct of the Commonwealth Games and give a bad image to our beloved country for all times to come. Participating players, officials and even the guests will have a very negative feeling, right from the beginning. The smallest of flaws will be magnified in their minds and they will go back with quite a weak forthcoming Commonwealth Games at such time when they should all be participating in, contributing to and celebrating it as the Grand Festival of India.
I do not know at all as to who are cultprits, how many people have misappropriated the country's funds/resources and pushed back the preparations with regard to the completion of infrastructure, as the reports say. If so, the culprits most definitely need to be punished with all their misdeeds thoroughly investigated and all sorts of checks and audits duly conducted by going deep into the matters related to purchase, negotiations & payments etc. But if should all be done after our country's greatest ever sporting event is over. Of course, all the culprits should be serverly punished, thereafter.
I am asking in all humility and cordialiality whther for the wrongs of may be a hundred people, should the hopes and aspirations of 1.2 billion people be crushed? It would be such a huge blot on our country's image if we do not conduct the Games successfully.
I myself am running a media network thoughout the country and I appreciate that Media has done its duty to expose Organisers' misdeed but at the same time with all humility, we must accept that Media ha alread overdone it, causing a very big damage in maligning the image of our country. Certainly the media on its part should not forgive culprits but should postpone its campaign until after the successful staging of Commonwealth Games. The immediate need is to create an exceedingly positive environment for the present organisers and genuine workers to make the Games a grand success befitting the great image of our nation.
I threfore appeal to anybody and everybody to rise as one united nation maintaining absolute positivity and dedicate themselves whole-heartedly to the cause of the Delhi Commonwealth Games, 2010 for the pride of our beloved country. We stuill have almost 2 months to go and can work wonders if we rise together collectively on war footing and contribute in all possible ways so that we may hold our heads high before the entire world.
Yours always
A Humble Citizen,
Subrata Roy Sahara

GODMAN

If an 'O' of Ego is removed from Goodman, it will become a Godman. Ego is fed right from childhood when a small child is appreciated if it wins a game or race or gets more marks in the class. Not only this, even the words, "My child is smarter than that of yours. My child is more handsome or beautiful than that of yours. My child is healthier than that of yours." All these kind of remarks from parents, grandparents and others fan the ego of the child.
When the child grows and goes to school, these remarks take another shape. "My child has scored more marks than that of yours. This child has topped the class by scoring high marks."
This kind of comparison builds the psychological foundation of the child to be better in the society. The child also learns how to feel different from others in the society? This may be called the child is learning "how to discriminate." Blood and flesh is same but there are so many other traits on the basis of which a child learns to differentiate with others in the society. White skin is better than black, my culture and country is better than that of yours, I am stronger than you, I am more intelligent than others are some of the mental developments. This attitude builds ego which in turn teaches the human beings to disdain others one count or the other.
The child less learns about himself which the mother Nature has given to him. It more learns about the artificial living. That's how to accumulate more wealth in this world, how to keep the knowledge upto himself and exploit others. Vanity prevails upon the child and it leads to distancing itself from the real happiness.
Real happiness is not in accumulation of wealth but its use for our brothers and sisters in this world. Real happiness comes from retaining and nourishing relationships howsoever small or insignificant they appear in terms of money and wealth. Real happiness comes from enjoying a good health which comes from treating others alike and sharing their woes and worries. No body cares how much you know until he knows how much you care.
It is the caring of the needy that brings the real happiness. So, stop fanning ego and enjoy real happiness. Shedding ego, we become 90% lighter mentally and start enjoying the journey of our life. Enjoy the light of the lamp without any regard to the lamp. Lamp can be made of clay, mud, silver, gold or diamond but light is same. It does not change. Be BIG and shed ego.

MAMA'S GIFT

Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful doctors and lawyers and prospered. Some years later, they chatted having enjoyed dinner together. They discussed gifts to their elderly mother, who lived far away in another city.

The first said, " I had built a big house for Mama."

The second said, " I had hundred thousand dollar theater in the house for Mama."

The third one said, " I had a Mercedes dealer to deliver LS600 for Mama."

The fourth said, " You know how Mama loved reading holy Bible (you may read religious book of your own religion) and you know she can't read now as she can't see being old. I met the preacher who told me about a parrot that can recite the entire Bible. It took twenty preachers 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to contribue $100, 000 a year for twenty years to the
church, but it was worth it. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it."

The other brothers were impressed. After the holidays Mom sent out her Thank You notes.

She wrote, " Milton, the house you build is so huge I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway."

" Marvin, I am too old to travel, I stay home, I have my groceries delivered, so never use the Mercedes. The thought was good. Thanks."

"Michael, you game me an expensive theater with Dolby Sound, it could hold 50 people, but all of my friends are dead, I've lost my hearing and I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture just the same."

"Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious. Thank you."

Luv Ya
Mama
Moral: Gifts should be need based.

VANITY

Vanity is empty pride. It is futility and unsubstantiality. Thoma a Kempis said, :He himself and that maketh no account of any height of hour." These words are the quintessence of humility, when one is not arrogant of his successes nor does he complain about his misfortunes.

He insists on living creatively everyday, every minute, to give happiness to himself and to share it with others.

The reverse of this characteristic is vanity, a common trait that infects the mind and spirit of huminity. As a matter of fact, no one can escape it entirely in a lifetime.

When we have vanity, we have conceit; and in both instances we tend to falsely believe we are more than what we are, when, as a matter of fact, we know the truth - that we are less, much less than what we can be. Then, in our secret embarassment, we scratch for attention, but it ends in a fruitless effort. It's like scratching on marble. If truth be known or realised, we wind up disliking our own self, neglecting opportunities to find our 'big self' and worthwhile goals.

Once this realizations dawns on us, we feel that there is nothing vanity but defeat. Perhaps we would think twice before being vain if we realised that we are playing a depression game, a losing

game that automatically makes us a member of the opinionated club; that we become little dictators who cannot win, who cannot relax, who cannot sleep.

The cure for our ailment is simple: Let us think kindly of ourselves, but don't gloat over successes. Be a good friend to our own self and be a good friend to others. Like Thomas a Kempis said, we will be great if don't make too great an account of our honours.

TRUE LIVING

Mr. Singh, a youngman of 34 years, migrated from Punjab (India) to Canada six years back. He is Master of Science by education. He did his Masters in Plant Breeding from world renowned University, Punjab Agricultural University. His mentor found that Mr. Singh's soul is more than he appears to the people around him. He motivated, mentored and encouraged him every time. Despite certain physical disabilities, Mr. Singh was able to overcome them. He was able to combat family, friends and peer pressure boldly. The first job he did in Canada was driving of the truck. This enabled him to visit every nook and corner of Canada and America. Many times he confessed scornfully that job was not upto his education. But his mentor always suggested to love the job and do not attach a tag of education. Today he is self-employed- an independent person, a contributor to the real world and its progress. Had he quit the job, he would have not reached the level he is today.

Having become aware about the topography of these two renowned countries of the world, Mr. Singh moved further in his career. Recently he bought a truck for C$ 60000- an achievement beyond his expectations and calculations. Today he is self-employed and is very happy.

He appreciates the continuous daily mentoring by his mentor in India over phone. Encouraging words make a person bold and brave to go up the ladder of success. Discouragers drag downward. Beware. This is his self development tale.

Now I switch over to his heart and the invisible natural help. A few years back, a young girl from Canada, not remotely known to him asked for help. The girl's mother is from UK and father from another country. Girl was born and raised in Canada. Mr. Singh helped her with C$ 1200 .

Last week , he was unable to lift the load from his company that had to earn him C$ 700. But his vehicle was not fit. He pleaded with his company," This kind of small loads will not enable me to earn enough to pay the instalment of my vehicle." "Sorry, Mr. Singh, I will take care in future to give you a heavy load for long distances so that you may earn well, " was the humble and quick answer from the company owner. He appreciated his gesture and kept enjoying his off-day sitting in his room.

Just then the phone rang, " Hello Mr. Gurmeet Singh Aitiana. How are you? You remember me." Before he could recollect who the caller was, the voice was heard, " I am Christie, the girl you helped a few years back. I am very thankful to you that you helped me when I needed the help very urgently. I am now able to repay you C$ 1200. I rang up so many times, but you appeared to be in USA and hence the network answered - the phone is switched off. Thank God I am able to contact you. I am coming to pay back your C$1200."

Now Mr. Singh was thinking, how God works. He lost load that could earn him C$700 but he earned C$1200 without even stepping out of his house. He raised his eyes and hands in appreciation and thanks to the invisible God saying "Waheguru, you are great. You show your presence by small, small events in our daily. " Helping our brothern and sisters is TRUE LIVING.

It is not the first case. Earlier too he had shown compassion for humans from other countries. A Philipine girl expressed her desire to get education. She expressed her inability because she could not pay her fee. Very intelligently, Mr. Singh, asked her to inform the name of the educational institution and he immediately remitted US$ 200. The girl though unkown, never met face to face is studying in the that educational institution.

In another incident, Mr. Singh helped a Russian boy who was in trouble. They became friends and Mr. Singh visits his home regularly. The Russian's mother, though does not know the language to communicate her feelings and thanks to Mr. Singh, keeps on scrolling her fingers through his hair. Looking into her eyes, one can easily gauge and infer that she is blessing Mr. Singh for what he has done for her son.

Helping humans with money or otherwise when they are in need is TRUE LIVING of which Mr. Singh is an embodiment.

Hats off to Mr. Singh.

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

This is an email received from Karim Hazi creator of www.creatingpower.com
GET RID OF NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

Negative thoughts can and will destroy your life!

A mind filled with negative thoughts will make you feel miserable, inadequate and will lead you to failure after failure no matter how hard you try to succeed.

If you have a pattern of negative thinking you'll be in debt and end up in destructive or negative raltionships.

If you want to succeed, enjoy happiness and live a life of abundance, and prosperity- you have to eliminate any nagative thinking and negative beliefs.

You'll also have to replace those negative thoughts with positive thoughts that allow you to succeed and enjoy life.

While this may sound challenging, it's a lot easier than you think and today I'm going to oputline just how you can eliminate naegative thinking and begin creating the life you want in a few simple steps.

Let's face it, we all have negative thoughts. As much as you try you won't be able to eliminate all your negative thinking.

But you can eliminate the nagative thoughts and negative beliefs that prevent you from succeeeding and achiving your goals.

Where do these thoughts come from?

They come from your friends, your family, your fellow co-workers, achievers, teachers, even strangers- and they come from you - that's right! You often create most of the negative thoughts that you have - and it's only because you haven't trained your mind to be positive and you haven't created positive beliefs that allow you to succeed.

Everyday you are bombarded with a series of negative thoughts, negative messages, and as you continue to absorb all of these negative messages you create a negative thinking pattern that leads to negative and limiting beliefs.

Negative thoughts are like weeds,- if you don't take care of themj and clear them early on- they will take over your entire mind and destroy positive thoughts and beliefs.

When you're young your mind is more optimistic. But as you get older- the weeds of negative thinking start to pop up. When you don't control them they start to wipe out all that was lush and positive in your mind and in your life.

The weeds of negative thinking not only taint your mind - they spill over into your life and start destroying all that you treasure and appreciate.

But you can turn this around and eliminate the negative thinking. Yoiu can eliminate the weeds, plant new seeds and create a new life and a new way of thinking - One that will allow you to enjoy life of great deal.

How?

You start by replacing the weeds of negative thiking with positive thoughts, positive feelings, and begin spreading this positive message to other people.

When you have negative thought that says you can't do something - think of why you can do something. Write down your abilities to do that something. Give message to your mind that you can do that something. Mind will start searching the ways and means to do that something.

When you think of what might go wrong - change these negative thoughts and think about what can go right!

When you feel that you can't accomplish something - think of why you can accomplish something.

Recite affirmations - these are the seeds of your new positive way of thinking.

Work with as many techniques as you can to get rid of the weeds and plant new seeds for positive thinking and positive living.

When will you see the changes?

When you're ready and when you eliminate the negative thinking. Start removing the negative thoughts that create the weeds of your mind. Begin changing negative and limiting beliefs. Empower yourself with positive thoughts and positive beliefs. Start today .

Say YES I WILL AND START. Don't wait.

Tend to the garden of your mind. Begin removing the weeds of negative and limiting thinking. Replace these weeds with new seeds - of positive thinking, positive feelings and positive living.

Spread the good will by sharing with others- this is infectious and will only allow you to continue to expand your new, positive lifestyle. It will also help you attract more positive situations into your life.

Continue watering your new garden in your mind by working with affirmations and other positive techniques- this will keep the weeds of negative thinking out of your mind and help you move in a new, positive direction.

BELIEVE:

You can and will eliminate negative thinking.

You can re-train your mind.

You can direct your subconscious mind to create the changes you want.

You can achieve all your goals.

You are a powerful human being who can and will enjoy the success and happiness you deserve - but only when you decide it's time to take charge and turn things around.

This is your life - make the most of it.

Don't let the weeds of negative thinking destroy your life.

Eliminate the weeds, plant the new seeds for positive thinking and positive living - and you'll begin creting the life you want.

P.S.: Remember - you only get one life and one choice. Make the most of it. Stop defeating yourself, stop limiting yourself. Create all the success you want and deserve in life.

POWER OF TRUTH

PATH OF RELIGION
Truth generates and creates sunshine in the life of an individual. It provides a ladder to human life to reach its zenith. It also protects the self-respect and self-image of the truth seeker and practitioner. Moral strength increases with the practice of truth. Falsehood has a short life.

One more fact about truth. The practioner of truth is always fearless. His mind is never cluttered with clumsy and wavering thoughts. Designing of evil projects and weaving cobwebs of thoughts is alian to truth practioner. Truth results in ever-lasting peace and prosperity as energy is not wated on falsehood.

Humans of truth have been able to achieve unthinkable successes and achievements in the history of human evolution. Truth and surrender are the two pillars upon which great successes have been achieved. The happiness which comes from the actions based on truth cannot be described in words. It can only be felt by the peerson who practises truth.

Human dignity is standing on the pedastal of truth. Falsehood leads to fall in real life.
Falsehood is the biggest enemy of an individual. Falsehood is short lived and does not help even the practitioner. Public criticism and loss of reputation are the two most notorious results of falsehood. Falsehood leads an individual to personal and social decline. One should avoid falsehood at any cost in life. Life is a great gift of Nature. Respect it. Love it. Protect it.
Celebrate it. Lead it in a pious way.

Contrary to this, truth is the invaluable asset of human life. Truth brings welfare to all in the society.

THE ART OF UNITY

GETTING RIGHT
MAINTAINING A haromonius joing family requires leadership, manaement and communication. Ettiquette exper ^Archie Sehgal tells us how to make it work.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
BE SELFLESS:
The first step is to surrender the concept of "self". Make an effort to think about others first.
TOELRATING
A joint family arrangement will test you. Annoying habits and conflicting personalities must be tolerated with patience and a positive attitude. Talking it out with the person concerned can build up the foundation for alasting relationship.
THE BENEFIT OF DOUBT:
If a family member misbehaves in a fit of anger, you should suggest reasons justifying
their actions. Your family members will admire your diplomacy.
SACRIFICE
Find the courage to sacrifice something you may want in the interest of another family member.
Although, do politely mention the sacrifice made. And, your selfless act won't be in vain.
The benefactor will appreciate it and most likely wait for an occasion to recipocate.
SHARING
Share everything with your family. From clothes, jewellery and books to your experiences, worries and problems. Sharing yourself will help your family to better understand you.
GIVE DUE CREDIT
Family members must be appreciated for their efforts. But at the same time, applaud all members, even those who haven't performed. This encouragement will instigate effort.
TAKE IT IN STRIDE
Your patience will be tested and there will be events and behaviour you won't approve of. The moment something undesirable takes place, have the power to tell yourself. "So what?"
EXPRESS YOUR GRIEVANCES
Don't keep your feelings bottled up. Also, avoid complaining about the problem to another family member. Approach the person directly and openly express whatev er is bothering using polite, befitting respectable words and body language. No trading of blames. This will help your overcome the problem and move on. This will forge unity and maintain peace in the family.
IN HARMONY
* Always project your family as one unit.
* While partaking in conversations in public, use 'we' 'our' and 'us'.
* If your achievements make your stand out from the rest of the family, be humble and always share the credit with your family whether it's for their help, cooperation, inspiration or moral support.
* Introduce your family to your friends and colleagues.
TIME MANAGEMENT
If you have hectic schedule, make time for home by involving family members in your morning routine. Have your morning tea, read the newspaper or have your breakfast in the company of other family members. You can also work on the laptop in their company. This enables you to make up on lost time. And, when you reach home, devote the first half an hour to your family. This is also the perfect opportunity to share your experiences of the day. Exercising or going for walks together is another good option. Faith, family and friends matter in life to make life 'heaven'. Remmeber it.
PEACEFUL LIVING
*Greet your elders in the morning.
* Instead of informing, the youngsters should seek permission from their elders. Try to use statements like "May I go?' instead of "I am going. "
*Express your love and afection. This will put others around you in a good mood.
* Create a common sense of belonging among all children of the joint family, irrespective of who belongs to whom . I mean cousins should be treated like siblings.
TAKING A STAND

GREEN THOUGHTS

IM Soni brings out the joys of maintaining a kitchen garden in the middle. "Green fingers" (April 30) Man's longing for seeing tiny seed sprouting into beautiful plants is understandable as both have roots in the mother earth.
We can find joy in plants and trees, if we are bored by the rush of bustiling crowds on our streets.
There is a myriad variety of plants, flowers, trees and birds around us which we fail to notice. In the daily rush of our lives, we forget to appreciate nature's bounty. If we sit for a while and clear the cobwebs blurring the memories of our childhood, we can definitely remember climbing up a gauva tree or stealing mangos while the gardener was away.
In the face of catching up with life, the real wonder of life like trees, flowers, birds, dandelions and beetles are left behind. If we stop and look at a tree, we will wonder why we are in such hurry! We can learn a lot from trees- the virtue of patiences, giving fruits and shade to one and all without discrimination.
