EXAM PHOBIA

EXAM PHOBIA

HOW TO HANDLE THE EXAM OR COMPETITION?

DO’S AND DON’T’S FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.

Exams create stress for parents and students alike. But if certain precautions and self-discipline is practiced, handling  exams or competitions does not become a stress for parents or students.

Student’s role:

1.       Daily routine is the key to success in any exam or competition. Planning is very important. Execution of the planning makes the job of preparation easier.

2.       Self-loading planning with following format helps a lot:

PLAN YOUR WORK, WORK YOUR PLAN.

I AM INTELLIGENT. I AM BRILLIANT. I WILL ACHIEVE MY GOAL.  I am responsible for my career and life.

Subject
Chapter
Name      Pages
Start Time
Finish Time
Delay in achieving the goal if any and new finish time

Exercise done/not done
Healthy eating
Done/not done
Good Music
Listened/not listened

3.       Be present mentally and physically for study.  Be honest. Dishonesty in study does not pay. Don’t cheat yourself. Sincerity pays. Be sincere. Don’t read to explain to others but for yourself. The best gift to yourself is “education.”

4.       Don’t study for marks alone. Work hard, read sincerely and marks will follow.

5.       Don’t compete or compare yourself with others but with your previous performance.

6.       How to read:

6.1 Have a separate room for study.

6.2 Stop mental distraction like watching TV, speaking unnecessarily or excessively with your friends or classmates. Yes discussing a subject is good use of mobile phone and time.

6.3 Discipline  yourself mentally and physically. Sleep well. Read well. Play well.
             6.4 Eat healthy light diet.

             6.5 Exercise daily.

6.6 Refresh yourself with washing your face with warm/cold water.  Water has refreshing properties.
6.7 Talk to positive people who encourage you not discourage you.

      7. Prepare with the end benefits of the  education in your life.  FAIL = FIRST ATTEMPT IN LEARNING.  Don’t discourage yourself.  Many students overdo and do not like to face the failure. Failed means you are in the race. If you will prepare well, there is no question of failure. Guaranteed.

     8. Love to read at your best. Don’t let your mood  be the boss of your reading habits. Be the boss of your mood. In preparation is only you and your books.

Read the books thoroughly and you will find that you know 80% and just 20% you need to consult others.

Jot down what you wish to consult your teachers or senior students. Tell your parents: You pay fee, give food, give clothes and everything. Learning is my responsibility. I will do the best.  Pray and work.

Touch feet of your parents. Parents are visible God and God is invisible parents i.e. your ancestors. Pray to them and no power on Earth can make you unsuccessful. Yes you need to read and work hard. Merely Prayer will not do.

9.BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. TRUST YOURSELF.  DEVELOP AN ATTITUDE : YES I CAN!

PARENTS ROLE:

1.       Parents role is not limited upto paying fees and financing the child’s study.

2.       They should go beyond that.

3.       Don’t compare your child with others. Generally parents say: Geetu got 96% Raman got 98% and what about you? This taunt by parents hits and hurts the child’s psyche most.

4.       Mind it: Parents need children and children need parents. Don’t compare and make them hate you internally. Rather say: I believe you and trust you will do the best. Exam is a part of life not end of life. So, do your best and leave the rest to God.

These are the morale boosting words. Once the parents these words, child starts working hard with “do or die” spirit.

5.       Do not give unnecessary advice. This disturbs the child.

6.       Especially for moms: Ask the child what the child wants to eat. Don’t cook what you want to cook but cook what is liked by the child. Whatever the child likes gives more mental energy.
7.       Honey, fruits, nuts, milk  are good for memory and mind sharpening.  Include them in the diet. Follow your child and treat the child like King during this period. Leave criticism for another occasion.

HOW TO STUDY FOR MORE MARKS AND EASY SUCCESS?

1.       Be mentally prepared saying to yourself i.e. self-talk (silently) I am braver than my exam. I can work hard and success will be hard. Don’t let study be your master but you be the master of your study.

2.       Don’t stress yourself but keep the stress under your control.

Do deep breathing. Breathe in through nose for 4 secs, hold the breath for 8 seconds and exhale the breath with a blow through mouth in 4-5 seconds. You are refreshed to study.

3.       Mind it : LUCK FAVOURS THE BRAVE. You are brave.

4.       Divide the study of one hour in 4 parts:
15 minutes read the headings of the chapter thoroughly.
2. 15 minutes closing eyes storm the brain to understand what you have read.
3)
Re-read the chapter 4. Now write what you have read.    After every 30 minutes 5 minutes pause and leaving the chair and splashing the water on face pays.
5.        Mind Maps can be used for study and correlation of different topics read in the chapter. Read the whole book. It will make the learning easy. Don’t understand but read like a novel.  Always read with pencil  in hand. Keep on underling the difficult points. But do  not stop reading. Continue reading. You will see that only 10-20% you do not know, rest is known to you. Focus on what you know well.
6.       REVISION IS THE FATHER OF SUCCESS.
7.       Drink water many times. Water rejuvenates learning power.

WISH YOU A GRAND SUCCESS

BE POSITIVE

Every adversary has a positive opportunity hidden beneath it.

BE POSITIVE, THINK POSITIVE AND POSITIVE WILL BE YOUR WORLD OR THE WORLD YOU WILL CREATE. VISIBLE WORLD IS THE WORK OF POSITIVE THINKING PEOPLE

A 4 yr old boy was in the market with his 6 yr old sister..

.Suddenly the boy found that his sister was lagging behind.

He stopped and looked back.

His sister was standing in front of a toy shop and was watching something with great interest.

The boy went back to her and asked,"Do you want something?" The sister pointed at the doll.

The boy held her hand and like a responsible elder brother, gave that doll to her.

The sister was very very happy...

The shopkeeper was watching everything and getting amused to see the  matured behaviour of the boy...

Now the boy came to the counter and asked the shopkeeper,

"What is the cost of   this doll, Sir!"

The shopkeeper was a cool man and had experienced the odds of life. So he asked the boy with a lot of love n affection,"

:Well, What can you pay?"

The boy took out all the shells that he had collected from sea shore, from his pocket and gave them to the shopkeeper. '

The shopkeeper took the shells and started counting as if he were counting the currency. Then he looked at the boy.

The boy asked him worriedly,"Is it less?

" The shopkeeper said," No,No...

"These are more than the cost. So I will return the remaining." Saying so,he kept only 4 shells with him and returned the remaining.

The boy, very happily kept those shells back in his pocket and went away with his sister...

A servant in that shop was very surprised watching all these.

He asked his master," Sir! You gave away such a costly doll just for 4 shells???

"The shopkeeper said with a smile," Well, For us these are mere shells.
But for that boy, these shells are very precious. And at this age he does not understand what money is, but when he will grow up, he definitely will. And when he would remember that he purchased a doll with the Shells instead of Money, he will remember Me and think that world is full of Good people.
He will develop positive thinking..Thats it..."

So always be positive and behave positive.
Wish you all a nice week ahead.

MIND AND MEDITATION

Mind is a good servant but very bad master. Mind is like a monkey that keeps on jumping from one branch of tree to another branch of tree.
A person asked a wise man: Can you tell me what is the form of God?
The saintly wise man thoughtfully with his one finger on the chin said: Do you know who are you? The person nodded in negative. The wise man said: Know thyself and you will know the world or the creator of the world. If you could not know about yourself in your life till now, how can you know the creator of you? Go and first know about yourself and then come to know about the creator. The creator is within you. No need to find HIM outside thee.

Isn't it the nature of human being to keep on asking "Where is God?" The human beings are more interested to find out what the others are having. Rather than feeling pride what he has.

Comparison is hell.

To elaborate more: On the eve of New Year, the management of a company gave gifts to its employees but it was observed that the most of the employees instead of focusing on opening and enjoying own gift were busy in asking others "what have you received as gift."
In life too, we are mentally busy to know the net worth of the people known to us. First we endeavour our best to know what the others have and then we start feeling jealous of them by storming our mind with the thoughts: How has he accumulated all those possession or wealth?

We keep on troubling and torturing ourselves with those inefficient thoughts without any reason.
WHY?

The simple answer is "the minds of majority of the people are filled with greed."
What they see, they love to have. Can every thing owned by others be had? No. Not at all.

What gives happiness in life is FREE. For example: air to breathe is Free. Love of mother, father, brother, sister and friends is FREE.

Exaggerated expectations from others and mental possessions are the cause of  mental unrest.

MEDITATION
Meditation helps in settling down these kind of untameable temptations. Bad is in our mind. But instead of throwing it out our minds, we keep on nurturing it in our mind and result is the collapse of character.
Wealth is lost, nothing is lost
Health is lost, something is lost
Character is lost, everything is lost, says Mahatma Gandhi.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016
TIME ONCE PASSED CANNOT BE RECALLED. TRUE! BUT THE GONE TIME TEACHES MANY LESSONS AND ENABLES US TO BUILD NEW HOPES ON THE BASIS OF OUR LEARNINGS WE RESOLVE TO IMPROVE AND MAKE OUR ,OUR DEARS LIVES, OUR SOCIETY AND WORLD BETTER.
New year celebrations throughout the world bring hopes to ALL.
New year, new resolution.
This year my resolution is " I will listen more and reduce my talking by half."
I have observed that when I listen, I learn new things but when I speak, I repeat what I know from my education, my experience, my experiments.
All others too have done so. Why not benefit from their learning?
I realised the benefit of listening from others from an incident that happened in my life.
I met an M.C.A (Master of Computer Application) person. She narrated and taught me  in 10-15 minutes conversation what I could not learn in 15 years BY juggling through books.
This incident changed my view and I resolved: Now onwards I will speak less and listen and learn more from others.
Just 10 hours back was the entry of TIME into NEW YEAR 2016.
The children of my neighbourhood having age range 3-14 years had arranged a dance party.
I was invited as chief guest. Their parents around 250 two had gathered in the park in front of our houses.
At 8 pm  of 31st December, 2015  the dance party started.  All had brought chairs from their homes. Elders were seated on the raised concrete built in the park. Light and sound system and self-made LCD using flex on wooden planks was done excellently well by the young children.
Throughout the dance party, coffee and eatables were served without break. All the people - elders, children, young, old, ladies and gents enjoyed the programme of the children.
Dance by a child of 3 really mesmerised ALL. Even now after 10 hours the song upon which she danced is stilling ringing in my ears. Whenever, we talk about that song and her presence of mind, we cannot control laughing and wonder how such a little child would have crammed the song and learnt to dance. Her steps and lip singing of the song was really beyond comprehension.
For 4 hours we were entertained and the cost was not more than Rs. 4000/- (Quite below US$ 100) for 250 people.  I was thinking, if a couple would have celebrated NEW Year in a hotel or any other hill station, it would have cost far more than Rs. 4000/- but here in the comfort zone of our homes, we have enjoyed the best.
At the end of the programmer, I was invited to distribute the medals to the performers. I invited 5-6 other elders of the area who were sitting there.  We all honoured the performers with the medals.  Children were happy. I was thinking who knows that from these children after a period of say 30, 40 years can be an IAS, IPS, IRS, Minister, Chief Minister or President of India or any other country.  Nobody can predict the future of the child. But this kind of foundation will definitely make a child confidence. Confidence creates reality beyond predications.
At 12 + New Year celebration was over and elders left the place. Now was the turn of the mothers of the children.
I saw it from the lobby of my house. I was wondering that even the seemingly less talking and generally known introvert ladies were dancing with full vigour and the full of their heart.
They were laughing, dancing, pushing, cuddling and cajoling each other.
And that too in a public place.
I had never seen those young ladies earlier laughing and dancing to that pitch. I thought, everybody has a talent, only opportunity is to be made available.

HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2016.

EDUCATION EMPOWERS

VALUE OF EDUCATION
Pic courtesy: www.duskyswondersite.com
Roots of education may seem bitter but fruits of education are really sweet and last for whole of life.
I categorise the human beings in 3 categories generally:
1. Unemployable: Those who do not possess any skill or education and look for job as a daily wager.
2. Employable: Know the mother tongue and are employable in their own states where mother tongue is spoken and written and their maximum job market is their own country.
3. Globally employable: Who know their mother tongue, national language and international language like English. They are educated and command employability throughout world.
While emphasising on education, one simple sentence is used:
Education is a better guard of liberty than standing army.
As seed grows into a big tree of different sizes and colours, so is the education gives the fruit throughout life in different ways. One fruit is you belong to the world through internet and without spending a dime, enjoy meeting kith and kin, friends from different countries. Who does not like having friends from different countries!
Another couplet impresses me:
Formal education gives living,
but self-education gives a fortune.
So, never stop learning even after leaving school, college or university. Reading 5/6 pages a day will make you better than those who do not read. Start is difficult. Muster the courage to start and your interest will grow.
Education adds value to you. How?
Scrap of iron is sold say price is  1 cent per kg.
But when scrap is sent to the furnace, it is burned in the furnace. Good quality scrap turns into steel while bad quality scrap is burned during the process.
Steel sells 10 times costlier than scrap.
From this steel, very costly products are manufactured. Value addition keeps on adding at each and every step.
Now, steel when turned into "magnet" costs 1000 times more than steel.  Magnets run the turbines that generate electricity and electricity is life line of humans and industries.
Applying the same to humans:
1. As a child, we go to school. Some bear the pressure and continue the education. They are good scrap. Others don't discipline themselves for any reason whatever it may be  and drop. They are bad scrap.
2. Many complete schooling but do not join colleges. Those who join college are like steel i.e. they have better value and work options. They have employment opportunities - nationally and internationally.
3.  The third level is steel turned into "magnet". Applying to the same yardstick to humans, the growth oriented minds who have been sharpened in schools, college or university keep on becoming better and better. They do not compare themselves with others or fellow beings but keep on improving their levels of learning. This makes them "magnets" or experts in their field of work.
Education enables a person to differentiate between "good" and "b ad" , ethical and in-ethical, moral and immoral, legal and illegal and many more. Education is the best gift to be given to the kids. All other gifts are perishable and but gift of education is imperishable.
Education is self-acquired skill. Certificates can be given to the children or others but the knowledge and skill acquired through those certificate cannot be transferred.
Education empower, education elevates. Be educated. Age does not matt r for learning. A 92 years old lady, said on TV in reply to a question of the anchor: So, grandma, you have finished 10th standard. Now what is your dream. She replied in fumbling broken words:  I,  I, I  w   i     s   h          to   b  e       g r a d u a t e    b e f o r e      I     c  l o  s  e    m  y      e   y  e s.  Who teaches was the next question?  M  y  g r e a t   g r e a t   g r a n d  d a u g h t e r.
77 years old Vinodji from Patna is doing Ph.D.
Value yourself and value education.
Here is a story from a student who had completed his +2 from Punjabi medium school from a village. He told:
I paid you Rs. 2200/- as fee for English Speaking Course  but it will pay me over 1 crore in life. I was surprised and asked: How?            He further told: It is a long story. I belong to a village. My father is a village head. I passed my +2 from Punjabi medium school with 80% marks. An advertisement from a bank said candidates with 60% marks in +2 can apply for the posts of Clerks. I was happy and applied for the post.
The word of my applying for the bank spread in the village and the villages around as my father used to tell each and every person he met.
With great zeal and zest I prepared for the exam. I took the exam. The result was FAIL. I  was discouraged.  My mother boosted my morale and father  too said that it was first attempt, don't bother.
Next time too I failed. This time my father was angry. I felt frustrated. But I attempted 3rd time and this time too I failed. I reflected upon the reasons of my continuous failure and found that my English was poor.   I worked very hard on English. 4th time I attempted and I failed.
This infuriated my father and he threw me out of the house. My mother wept a lot.
I came to your city and started working in a factory. I was paid Rs. 4000/- per month. I stayed in a dingy room.
I joined 2/3 institutes to learn ENGLISH. But at the time of admission, they said: You will write and speak ENGLISH well but the course ended they said: You are from Punjabi medium school and that too from a village, hence you are very weak in ENGLISH.  These words hurt me a lot. But I could not speak back.
As luck would have been, one day I was going back to my room in the auto-rickshaw (3-wheeler) and as usual I was telling my story of frustration to one of my friend. In that auto-rickshaw, a lady professor was sitting. She was hearing all this. She advised me to meet you.  I met you and you gave me hope. You told me that I would learn English writing and speaking. It all heartened me. I joined the 2 month course by depositing Rs.2200 in 2007. I attended the class. I felt a new energy for studying and working hard. Meditation techniques, memory techniques taught by you made me more confident.
Your words: Two characteristics Attitude and Making Efforts are in your control. If you believe you can pass any exam, you must have positive attitude and should "Never Stop Doing" . These words inspire me to work hard.
As I lived all alone and had failed in the bank exams 4 times, throughout night I kept on reading the books in addition to the SELF-LEARNING MATERIAL, audio CDs, workbook given by you.  This all made me confident and I took the exam of the bank.          This time, I cleared the exam.
"That's true, but how it will give you 1 crore?" I quipped out of curiosity.
"Sir, I am getting Rs. 20000/- as salary and will work at least for 30/35 years. My promotion will be there. Respect and prestige is there. This will make me more than 1 crore in 35 years. "
I gave a loud laugh as this was never thought by my small head.
"Sir, now my father is addressed as "father of bank manager" by the villagers and villagers come to our home for seeking guidance for bank exams for their children. It boosts the heart of my parents. Now my father on the rainy days comes to my bank to pick me up in the car. I thank you a lot. It is all due to your guidance. Your way of teaching is excellent. It generates confidence. THANK YOU SIR, PRANAM."

I was thinking that a teacher can never know how his teaching will benefit the taught.

So, Rs. 2200/- investment on education will pay the taught Rs. 1 crore in life. This is the value of education.
Success is not tough but it demands:
1. Hard work, continuous focused hard.
2. Positive attitude with end result in mind.
3. Powerful self-trusting self-talk makes you winner.
