MOST UNDERGROUND STATION
The MTA New York City Transit has 458 stations in a network covering 370 km (230 miles). The railway first opened on October27, 1904 and serves an estimated 5.1 million passengers per day or 1.86 billion per year. In addition to 277 stations situated underground, 153 rest on stretches, 29 are builT on embankments and nine lie in “open cuts” (trench like depressions below street level)
